**********This is looking to be a great time!! Tell your friends!!! *********

I am trying to get a cruise to Austin going on August 4th.

I just picked that day because I was planning to go down there for the MOCTAX 27th Annual Roundup...a co-worker of mine told me about them and I figured it might be a good day to round up some DFW Stangs and head down to Austin :D

If you are interested let me know. Also pass this along to anyone you think might be interested. If there is an interest I'll post rally points and more details here this week. Hope to see you there.

Who knows, maybe the sun will stay out and make it a great ride!

******NOTE: See time changes and NEW PHOTO OPP in WACO below******
__________________________________________________ _____
NOTE: I just received an email regarding parking. For most of us that are not SHOWING, they will have ample parking for us and there is not an entry fee as I mistakenly stated before. If you ARE going to show your car, there is a small registration fee. If you pre-register for the show before July 30th it is only $20 if you are showing and $10 if you are just "displaying" !!

Rally point/stop info:

Doing my best here to get this figured out...figuring on 4 hour drive with a few stops. We don't need all the stops below but just planning them in for contingency.

Rally points

North Dallas and East

Main Event parking lot on I75 in Plano - NOTE This is changed from the Best Buy which is on the WRONG side of the road...my mistake.
- leave 6:30AM

North Central and I35E Corridor

No one has stepped up on this so anyone in this area feel free to PM me by tomorrow night and we can connect - otherwise head for the Waxahachie rally point (see below).

Fort Worth/Mid Cities

D-Money2003 was going to anchor the FW rally point but can't make it - same as above - PM me by tommorow night or you can meet us in Waxahachie.

Final Rally point to get everyone together

Waxahachie - The Civic center on the East side of I35.
For those that are meeting here, hook up with Shoot To Kill...his cell# is in a post down below. I will be calling him as we approach and we'll be doing a rolling merge because we have a MUCH better photo opp near Waco and need the time to make it.
We'll look to hit Waxahachie around 7:15-7:30AM.

Gas, coffee, photo opps

Carls Corner
Too ripped up still...

Waco -
Cameron park photo opp - openroadracer3 will take the lead as we approach Waco and guide us in. We can top off the tanks here too. This place sounds perfect for a pic.

Final stop
Great Hills Baptist Church parking lot, 10500 Jollyville Road , Austin
arrive around 10:30AM (or so).
Here is a link to a map of the area around the car show.

Some have asked about a caravan back...PM me with your suggestions. I think we could grab a beer and a bite somewhere and then cruise back.

openroadracer3 - yep this is the MOCA event.
propellerhead - I can't drive 55 ;)

Registration is 8:30-10:30AM for anyone interested in showing their car.
Personally I am not showing so I was just thinking of just crusing down Saturday morning but I wanted to get an idea of how many were joining in before deciding on start time. I've got a couple emails out to the coordinators to see what arrangements they can/will make for us out of towners.

openroadracer3 - yep Bob White is the father of my co-worker...I've exchanged some emails but I've never met him but he owns one cool stang! It was on the cover of Oct 2005 Issue of Popular Hot Rodding
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/toc/0510phr_toc/

I am North Dallas (McKinney) and have a few folks up here who are planning to cruise. I have a friend in Arlington who might be coming too.
And I know of one other in the FW area.

I am thinking 3 rally points (FW, Carollton, and Plano/Richardson) to make it easy on everyone - 1 point would be a pain to figure out since people are probably all over the metroplex. We can then merge at Hillsboro (after the I35 merge) for the final ride to Austin. I'll post a final schedule and exact rally locations this weekend.

I can anchor the Plano/Richardson rally point...anyone want to step up for FW and Carollton (or suggest an alternative).
I am thinking we start out around 8:30 AM Saturday for a 12:30 arrival - yeah its early but its just this one time :D

My 2005 GT got 29mpg (there and back) last time I took it to Austin. I was friggin' amazed it got such good mileage.

THE_dent_GUY - From the entry form its pretty much a Ford only show - sounds like a great truck you have there but I think I'd leave the bow-tie at home on this one but feel free to contact the folks at MOCATX.

D-Money2003 - basically what I'd like to do is have you get to the rally point (once we figure it out) and just lead the cruise out from there; it would be good for us to xchange cell #s so we can be sure to hit the merge together. I'll post details this weekend.

Any takers for the North I35E corridor (Carrolton, Lewisville, etc.)?

Carls Corner is still being worked...I drove by a few days ago and I don't think it will be up by Aug 4th...I'll double check next week. Its being turned into a Willie Nelson touristy spot...right now the parking lot and all is still ripped up. We can definately find a few spots for photos along the way.

TBD - somewhere around Carrollton would probably work
Need someone to anchor this. Anyone?
- leave 8:30AM

we might just have to go with just dallas and ft worth groups... looks like the I-35/carrollton area is flaking out.

BTW, Bob said there is plenty of room for us. i know a guy that works at a place that does up banners.... maybe we can do a DFWStangs banner and all park in that area. would be a great photo shot.

there's not much on the west side of 35 in hachie. best place to get everyone rounded up in hachie would probably be at the civic center which is right off the highway, but to get there, you have to take a few roads. it doesn't feed right in.

if this is agreeable, i'll get a map drawn up on how to get there coming south on 35E.

Haven't decided if we are coming back that night or staying over. Leaning towards driving back that night right now.

As for hotels in the Arboretum there are lots. I've stayed at the ESA, Courtyard, Bradford suites, Candleridge suites and Staybridge suites (our Austin office was just down Mopac from there).
They are all right there around Capital of Texas and Stonelake. ESA is usually the cheapest.

I've updated the first post, but just in case....
I just received an email regarding parking. For most of us that are not SHOWING, they will have ample parking for us and there is not an entry fee as I mistakenly stated before. If you ARE going to show your car, there is a small registration fee. If you pre-register for the show before July 30th it is only $20 for Show and $10 for Display-only!!

But again, for those of us just going down to enjoy, we will have room to park all together.

Also, I changed the North/East side rally point to the Main Event on the West side of I75 vs the Best Buy which is on the wrong side of the road...it'll be easier for us to get on the highway from the Main Event.

hey man, i talked to Bob on the phone today and he said we need to leave earlier than 8:30. he said people will start showing up around 9:30 and awards will start around 3. i want to make the most out of the day so i am up for leaving around 6:30....or even 6:00.

if that's too early for you, i'm going to leave around 6-6:30. traffic won't be nearly as heavy getting out of DFW... and if you're going to have a caravan, traffic can be an issue. so the earlier the better there too.

well the red line is just the exit, but yes, follow the green line.

IF YOU MISS THE TURN, DON'T PANIC! just keep going and you will cross some railroad tracks, AS SOON AS YOU CROSS THE RAILROAD TRACKS, make a right, then call me. it's not hard.

no no, this is in waxahacie.

if you're coming from Ft Worth, you best bet would be to come straight down 287. same map, except take the

35E waco/dallas exit. but stay on the service road and then you can follow the green line from there. if you would like me to make another map from that direction, let me know.

ponygt2005
07-31-2007, 09:09 PM
We are using Waxahachie OR Hillsboro as meeting places for the (N)Dallas and FW folks to join up. The FW folks have a few options: come down 35W and meet in Hillsboro, take 287 and meet in Waxahachie (or I guess 20 across to 35E but that's probably longer).

Oh, and we were going to use the Waxahachie Civic center as a photo op too.

Once we get some more confirmations we can figure out what time we are leaving and then we can pick meet times for Waxahachie and Hillsboro so we can make sure e'one that wants to meet up can do so.

We probably won't hit the Waxahachie Civic Center until around 7:15AM if we leave Plano at 6:30AM.

I was planning to have us all leave the Civic Center after a 10-15 minute photo opp so if you could hold on until then we can all go down together. I know you want to get there earlier though so I understand if you can't wait.

ponygt2005 - here is that place i told you about. it is about 3.5 miles up Lake Brazos Parkway after we exit the highway. i figure it will take us about 30 minutes total to exit, park, shoot the pics and get back to the highway.

waco would also be a good place to top off the fuel tanks for those concerned with fuel.

once we get close to waco, i can take the lead and lead us to the picture location.

here is a map of the area. click on the "satellite" option then zoom in to see the place. it is the boat ramp area where the Brozos makes the sharp right turn. i have been there for the drag boat races and it will be a great background for the pictures. you'll see a boat heading north... the placed is just a little farther north... you'll see it.
