Memo

Yeah so i have a 2000 r1 and the damn thing is annoying the crap out of me. Now it won't hold charge at all. I put a new battery and still the same problem. With a full battery it will turn on fine and ride for like an hour and then die. I need help! Who wants to diagnose it for me?

If i have the bike on and then i disconnect the battery it starts to struggle big time then it dies.........

I'm thinking alternator? Do these things even have one? Maybe a relay? or something. I will buy beer to whoever wants to take on the task of checking it out for me. :D

bikes have something similar to a alternator, its called a stator. Check the output, also could be your regulator rectifier. Its a small usually metal box mounted most of the time where you can see it cause they get hot, its probably on the sub frame. my KTM is having the same problem so i've done a little reaserch on the subject.

If it's cheap enough, do it, but diagnose it first or get someone to do it for you. Invest in a repair manual and learn some of the basics, so you can handle it in the future, it's always reassuring to know how to repair something you own.

Another vote for the regulator rectifier. Cheap, on ebay, buy a new one.

I agree. Diagnose it first. Just went through the same thing with my CBR, and bought a new rectifier. Ended up being the stator. Problem is, when the stator goes bad, it can fry the rectifier. So i ended up having to buy a stator and another rectifier.

Ok guys, I took the regulator rectifier to the dealer and they said it was good but it did have some minor burn marks on the connector and they said go ahead and replace it. Well I haven't replaced it because I want to make sure it's not anything else that is the problem. And I do not want to take it to the dealer cuz they charge an arm and a leg.

Ok, I'm upgrading my offer to beer and a little cash to whoever can fix it for me. I just want my bike to run normal. I'm not asking too much am I?

Help me out guys!

Thanks!

everyone has you going in the right direction. You can likely find a new rectifier and stator on eBay for around $100 shipped.

You can reuse the stator gasket if you don't fuck it up, but don't be a cheap ass, get another one from Yamaha. This is an easy project that you can do yourself with basic tools in a matter of minutes.

I *think* all you are going to need is a ratchet, 8mm socket, extension, and to remove the tail section. Have fun :D

Shit, forgot the allen-wrench you will need to remove the stator from the cover.

Tap the cover with a dead blow to break the seal. It's going to be hard/weird to remove because it's magnatized.

he has a short of some kind. the reg has burn marks in it meaning something is getting way to hot and melting the wiring and the plugs.
