nothing close to the same Kimbo we are use to seeing! he made very little attempt to "just throw bombs" with Mercer but he rushed him made some take downs, nice knee strikes, and some good attempt's at elbow strikes and finished it off with guillotine choke!

he looked like a completely different fighter in the ring!! has has skills
I can't wait for him to get KTFO though!

It's a matter of time. Kimbo is still inexperiencd at fighting experienced fighters. Mercer wasn't prepared for a street fight bum rush. If Kimbo does that to someone who knows how to deal with it he'll walk into something ugly eventually.

Why is everyone crying that some 'street thug' is in MMA? So what? MMA is supposed to be about what art is best, if some street punk can get by with minimal amounts of training then so be it. I for one hope he starts whipping some more ass, he clearly made a couple of mistakes that he easily powered out of which is one of his strong points. I for one was amazed at his abilities, it looked like he had known some of the moves all along and hustled us to get more bread on his mma debut. I realize that Mercer isn't a good baseline of his abilities, but it is a start. If he sticks it out a year or two before he fights anyone big, he might surprise us all. I haven't seen it here yet, but people are crying all over the MMA forums that he is making the sport look bad, I just don't see that. Just because someone doesn't win pretty, doesn't mean its not a victory.

Very true. The days of style vs style are long gone. Now it's about who is the most complete, all around fighter.
MMA fans are very standoff'ish about Kimbo because it has a boxing hype feel about it. They are taking some internet fighter, giving him a few lessons and giving him easy fights to build up his record to try and make him legitimate. You can't learn the MMA game in a few months and be ready for a title fight. It's just something they are doing to sell tickets and PPV's.

Abecx, what's up with the thread title spoiler? When posting a fight thread just post (spoiler inside) so it doesn't screw the people who haven't watched the fight. I mean come on man, don't be a dick stick. :p

That had to have been one of the worst, if not the worst, MMA fight I've ever seen. That guy was a washed up boxer who was nothing more than a jobber for this fight.
Lets see what he can do against guys like Arlovski, Sylvia, Cro Crop, Couture, etc. He'd be done in less than 2 rounds.

^^ yea i know. nobody just jumps to the top. everyone gets introduced and then tested a few times first. and a lot of the big names are being upset right now too, so you can say whatever you want about anybody, but this is the year of upsets, and no one is safe from it. just look around

Like they say a win is a win. I use to love watching Tank Abbot fight because he was intense and just wanted to fight . There was never anything pretty about his methods, just results. But his fights were always fun to watch. And even some great fighters aren't that well rounded, that's why they have good takedown defense. It's about who's most effective in making the other person fight thier fight.

I agree he should work his way up, but some people think this guy is Ivan Drago and can't be beaten. He's just another big guy who can throw bombs. Big whoop.

I saw him throwing some pretty crazy knees to get his bread. Mercer got bum rushed from the start and then double leg take downed, it was a pretty impressive start.

Mercer wasn't any more of an opponent than some 'tard on the street. If he was fighting the guy in his prime, it would be a different story and a much bigger deal.
This fight has about as much legitimacy as his street fights, the only difference being this was in a cage and with gloves.

and If my Aunt had something she'd be my Uncle...if if if...he was fed an easy fight to make sure he had success in his debut. Bas Rutten said he's his best student he's ever had and just wants more and more even when he's gassed.
Go back to your UT homer and Ranger threads and leave MMA to people who actually watch and enjoy it ok lil guy.

Sup, I'm training in muay thai atm, when I have my opening fight, SVTVenom, do you mind being in the ring so I can show everyone I'm the real deal? After that, I'm going directly for Mauricio Rua.

So you think that this fight was really that big of a deal? I guarantee you that if this guy ever fought anyone of worth, he'd get toasted.

It was as big of a deal to me as shamrock vs baroni. Neither fights have any major pull in the top 10 lhw/hw's of the world etc but I wanted to see the outcome of both. It was an interesting fight to see, talk about, and so will be the Tank vs Kimbo fight.
Not saying he's ready to fight Fedor yet but Kimbo has the phsycial abilities to be a decent fighter one day.
And if Colt McCoy went up against an NFL defense right now he'd get picked apart, again what's your point?

Seeing some unproven thug fight a bunch of has-beens doesn't seem too exciting to me, but you are much more of an MMA junkie than I am so I can kind of see how it peaks your interest.
I just don't think the guy should get so much press/praise for beating some washed up boxer who quit MMA fighting right after that fight. Hell, Kimbo made PTI's 'Big Finish' the other day.

Yes, because we all know that Colt McCoy is the Kimbo Slice of the football world. Horrible example.

are you jealous young Colty doesn't get more PTI exposure?
and no it's not a horrible example it's an example of two people not ready to step up to the cream of the crop competition.

Did I read someone admitting MMA as a street fight bum rush??? LoL
P.S. some of you guys are complete dolts.
Lately some of the MMA fighters I have seen are no better than a street fighter with a poor defense. I decent boxer would kill alot of them. If they don't take boxer to the ground fast, it's going to get ugly.
That said I am not meaning the cream of the crop fighters just the Joe Blows/Poluka Joe's.

I would say that Kimbo should beat Tank, but if you mean Frank Shamrock then Kimbo Slice will get sliced and diced. On the other hand if you mean Ken Shamrock, I think Kimbo will win. But in all honesty, why would anybody want to see Ken vs Kimbo? Ken is old, washed up, and best left to coaching / training others.

Well , maybe you should've seen Frank's last fight against Baroni. It was one of the better mma fights of the year , IMO. Just curious as to what weight do you think these imaginary fights will take place at?
