Buying golf clubs..

I was just wondering what the general thought was on this. I used to golf all the time back in high school, the best I ever shot was an 86. Now that I am getting back into it and am looking to get some clubs would it be best to get a new set or would a better used set be the way to go? I'm not locked into a specific price range, but I'd like to keep it somewhat cheap since I'm not planning on going pro anytime soon.

I had these in mind, they seem to have good reviews.

Does anyone have any advice where to look for clubs, whether used or new would be the way to go. And if used is best, whats a good bang for the buck when it comes to used clubs?

Cleavland Launchers. I payed 700.00 a few years ago. You can get the same set now for about 300.00. Very nice clubs for the price. Lots of forgiveness.

the pga super store has used clubs thats what i buy. they have some good deals.

Yea the new one in frisco is ridiculous! Tons of new/used clubs all in nice shape great brands too

I don't have the first clue. I was given a Taylor Made driver, and some crap ass fairway woods. All I need now is to go buy a set of irons, and don't have a clue what to look for.

I have always just bought good quality used clubs. The only thing I got new was the bag.

Im new to the whole golf thing and kinda thinking about getting into it... But i was wondering, not to hijack a thread... But what do yall think of callaways? my step father is offereing to buy me a full set. :o Never golfed before! so i have no clue as to what im doing! But he's offereing so im considering!

Just about all brand names have great clubs. If you are a new golfer, or one with a few years experience, you'll want to get a set that are cavity back. Thats what makes a forgiving club. The blades are too hard for a beginner to play with.

I went to the one in Plano and they had TERRIBLE used clubs. Maybe a hundred assorted Woods, hybrids, wedges, and putters. All over priced IMO. And no irons.

IMO, the PGA store is nice if you want to pay Retail :rolleyes: . Because it seemed to me like they didn't have anything but a hand full of "overstock" deals.

Went to Golfsmith and got a quality used Adams RPM Redline 5 Wood for $29.95 and a $100+ pair of Adidas golf shoes for $49.99.

Also, keep an eye out for Great deals on Ebay with these local stores. You can pick them up locally. Dallas Golf **EDIT** Dallas Golf does NOT do local pickup. Blades, also known as musclebacks, are a type of iron that have a full, smooth back and thin topline, as opposed to a cavity back and thicker top-line profile. The top-line is what you see as you are standing at address looking down at the top of the iron. The weighting of blades is concentrated behind the center of the clubface, resulting in a smaller sweet spot. Blades are usually forged and are preferred by better, discerning players seeking enhanced shot-shaping control and soft feel at impact.
Cavity back is a design feature on the back of some irons where the area is hollowed-out to distribute the weight around the perimeter. The distribution of weight resulting from the cavity back design allows for a larger sweet spot for enhanced forgiveness on off-center hits. Cavity back irons are preferred by mid to high handicap players, but many low-handicappers and touring professionals use cavity backs too.
