I am very happy for Michael F. .......... some players go their whole career and never get to this while others come into the league young and start getting them right away .

I heard he is still getting paid..is that true? I also heard that Cuban got fined for trying to get him to come back to Big D...not sure if any of it is true...

Go Spurs

It's possible. We released him before his contract was up, I do believe. So I'd assume we still have to pay until his contract is up.

It is true the Mavs have to pay him his full contract. It was a one time thing the NBA let every team release one player without their salary counting against the cap but they would still have to pay them. Although they still had to pay him around 50 million for not playing for them Cuban saved that much by not having to pay the luxury tax.

Might as well have. He damn sure wasn't contributing to any championships here.

as long as dirk is the key guy here, there will be no championships... :(

Yes, we're still paying him. I think we owe him one more year at 8.xx Million or so. We saved 50 million by letting him go since we got our salaries under the salary cap. I'm sure it sucked to make that decision, but it was purely a financial one. Cuban DID NOT get fined about his comment a few weeks ago concerning Fin coming back. It was reviewed by the league and deemed "not a serious attempt" to get him back, but merely a compliment to an ex-player. Congrats FIN. At least ONE of us got a ring this year... :\

I *think* I agree. Are you saying he needs to go?

I don't think they need to release Dirk at all. I just think we need to bring in someone else that is a born leader. Dirk's a pimp, with tons of skill. It just seems that he cracks when he knows he is the only one with enough talent to dominate when they are down, and turn it in to a win.

He averaged 3 points a game in the finals but has a ring now riding on the coat tails of Duncan, Parker, and Manu. He definitely was going to help the Mavs win anything that door closed 2 years before they released him.

He also hit 8 3-pointers in a first round game against Denver. He was probably the MVP of the first series for the Spurs.

Sounds like his last few years with the Mavs flashes of greatness then disappers. Too bad that dont give out MVP trophies for 1st round series :D
