Sounds like fun.. I have been 4-5 times but have only come out ahead once, and that was an accident. A guy I was with was telling me about a particular horse that he was going to bet on.. I went ahead and threw $5 on it and it hit over 30 to 1. At the end of the race when I was cheering and he wasn't I couldn't figure out why. Turns out I placed the bet on the wrong horse (not the one he was telling me about), so he didn't win. :p
