last time i checked.. past of boxing was the art of "blocking blows"..if you cant block the first blow .. then how are you meant to last the fight?

There's no kicks in boxing. I thinks it falls under the old saying, "can't teach an old dog new tricks". He has been boxing so long it's probably not in his nature as a boxer to defend kicks. With a new learning curve like K-1 or MMA it is hard to change regardless how much you train, on the first fight. When the bell rings you go with what you know.

Mercer needed the money... That's why he took the k1 fights... Why else would someone give up after one high kick that didn't even drop him. lol

I guess having done a little martial arts i would have thought he would have prepared better. the first kick that was thrown at my head i made damn sure to block:) call it a survival instinct. I guess if i was getting in a right with some one who kicked and punched , i would have trained to at least avoid or block a kick.

Mercer is going to get destroyed. He is old, washed up, and collecting paychecks. He has no heart as soon as this fight hits the ground and he's getting GnP'ed.

Just so you know, I'm no big fan of Kimbo. That's just how I see this going.

I agree, Matt. I don't like Kimbo at all, but he can brawl for a few minutes until he's out of gas. But I don't see Mercer lasting long at all.

It's a hard one to call. In those weight classes not to many guys have great stamina. Mercer has a damn good chin even though his k-1 fight didn't look great. I more question his heart more than anything. If his heart is in it, I think Kimbo will have big problems standing with him. If he is just in it for a paycheck, then he will probably lay it down for the easy pay.

kimbo is actually training for this fight. there are vids of him at Randy Couture's gym on the net. Working on his clinch, bjj, etc. I still dont care to see this fight but it could be interesting now that I know he is taking it serious.

I thought the same thing about Brock Lesnar. I thought it would be a joke, then he seemed to be taking it seriously ( training with the Iowa boys IIRC ) but then in his debut there was no sign of his having any real MMA training.

he trained more with sean sherk's team in minnesota than he did in iowa. the fight didnt last long enough for us to see anything. he had a nice takedown, almost passed guard, then did some gnp on a korean tomato can. Maybe they will pair him up with someone better next time.
