the rise seems to have been faster that what he is making it out to be. for me it was the first season of TUF that got me to be a fan

LOL!
a self admitted tuf noob.

when zuffa bought ufc in 2000 or 2001, they were on satellite ppv only. no cable companies carried it period. they were on the brink of going out of business.
this has been a long time coming. l'm glad to see ESPN taking it as a legit sport now!

is that sort of a put down? the only reason i had ever even heard of the sport before was because of ken shamrock going to the wwf. and when i worked at blockbuster in high school we carried tapes of the early stuff, but it just never seemed interesting

It's coming around in a big way.

ESPN is covering it, even has it's own section.

They also had the cover and a nice 8 page spread in Sports illustrated last week.

They need to get that HBO deal in place so they don't kill it with PPV like boxing has done.

Why is it people have this idea. I watched Ultimate Fighting Champion 1 not UFC on cable when I was about 15 and in the first fight a sumo wrester gets his teeth kicked into the first row. But people are like cattle heading to feed if one is into it they all are.

ive been a fan longer than all yall! na na  ... who cares whos been a fan longer or who knows more??? sounds like people argueing over whos been a football fan longer. i think its great that its getting as big as it is and all the big MMA guys feel the same... the sport definitly deserves the hype.

Im not a Huggggerr fan than anyone here but i 2 like alot of you have been following it since the Gracie day's. 1994 for me is when i stayed with it and followed UFC, never could stand and still dont care for Boxing.

like he said comparing the ufc to boxing is like comparing apples to oranges. As far as the ufc selling more payperviews than boxing.... i seriously doubt that.
