my boss is having computer problems and would like a company to come to his house and fix the problem... he keeps getting an error report everytime he tries to get on the internet.

I am not a company that does computer repair. Instead, I have on many occasions, picked up computers from friends and coworkers, removed the offending software, and traded the computer back to the original owner for a twelve pack of good dark beer or a big bottle (1.75) of Clan MacGregor. (Yes, I like real cheap rock-gut scotch.) I have found and removed a lot of things, including keyloggers from China, web page redirects, the usual malware, etc. Sometimes it takes awhile since I am not a computer tech by profession. (The chinese key logger took days, since there was a 5 second delay between each keystroke.) I have also helped a few people online and via email in my spare time. ( A recent example: http://www.dfwstangs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=325093 )

I'm willing to try to help, but with gas prices what they are, it may not be worth it for me to drive to his house for a free twelve pack or bottle of scotch, as I live in South Fort Worth. It may be solveable over the phone, or online, though. What operating system/version is he using? I haven't messed with Vista, yet, so I may not be a lot of help if that is what he is using. How computer literate is he, that is, would solving the problem via email be practical?

My email is m i k e at m i k e w a l s t e d dot c o m if he is interested. Let me know if I can help.

back up all the data needed and be prepared for them to wipe and reinstall.

might help if you give the part of town its in and $$$ offered.

I only do it now as favors to friends or local and not wanting it for cheap. honestly some stuff you might spend more time trying to fix and still have issues when you could have just done a clean install and have the system running better
