STFU, the 7531 is more of a race part than than anything and the people who actually run them more than likely only check this forum.

I need a quick refresher on programing this box and messing with the slew rate.
I haven't messed with one in almost a year and the person with the car I wrecked is being an ass and will not give me my programs back that That i made for his car.
For some reason I am having problems making new programs and saving them and getting the right ones to transfer from the laptop to the msd

Is it erroring out?

Are you saving the programs and then loading them or trying to load them, modify them and then save them?

Are you verifying?

If it's giving you troubles, I'd make the program from scratch, save it, THEN connect to the car to rule out any transfer problems. Are you using a USB adaptor or a straight serial connection?

No

I'm trying to save the program but some reason it's not. I can modify the program that transfer from the msd to the pc and reload it but I can't save it.

No

I didn't have any problems the last time I messed with one of these and went through and made about 5 different programs that I wanted to try and now I can't make one. I don't think I forgot everything in one year but hell.

ah... Now we're getting somewhere. Most of the time when software doesn't let you "save" a file it's because it's not licensed. However I don't think MSD licenses their software. Maybe it's a demo version? Have you tried to reload the software?

I haven't had a chance to try and reload it. This is a last minute deal that just came up last night and i'm just trying to give this person a good base line to start with on a brand new car. It's all brand new parts and it's the original msd disk.
I can't even go in and make a few simple programs to use later.

What is the exact error message your getting? I am no MSD expert but I am an expert at finding answers when I have error messages. Where are you located at? Like I said I don't know the box but I do know computers and this sounds like it is computer related.

Luke - they are known for having problems connecting with the USB adaptor. MSD even has a warning on their site - if you don't use a certain adaptor it won't work or it will have erratic connection problems. It's either that or a bunk install.

Now the laptop does use a usb adaptor instead of being able to hook the cable strait to the computer like normal. I will tell him tomorrow to he might look into getting a new laptop.

That's what I was talking about earlier... You don't necessarily have to get the laptop equipped with a serial port, but it sure helps. Not to mention it's one less thing to keep up with at the track, the adaptor that is.
Have you chnged the COM port settings to see if it would connect?

When you have problems with USB components it is usually caused by pugging the component in before you installed the drivers.

You could try .
Go to Add/Remove Software under your Control Panel.
Uninstall all the MSD software.
Unplug the USB Device
Right click My Computer
Choose Mange
Click Device Manager
Find the USB Adapter for the MSD device. I have no idea what it will be called but it should stand out.
Also look for devices that have yeild sign with a ! in them.
Delete the devices with the yeild sign and ! in them as well as any devices that are associated with MSD.
Reboot your computer.
Once the computer is back up, install the MSD software in its entirety. Reboot if prompted.
Plug the MSD in the USB port of choice.
Open the Device Manager and again and check for yeild signs with the ! in them.

If you don't have any, attempt your save program process again.
