View Full Version : Finally Dynoed My Car Today...

Went to HPP today to see what the turbo coupe would do.

437rwhp on my pump gas tune - 9psi and 20-21 degrees of timing and 505rwhp on my race tune - 14psi and 25-26 degrees of timing. No torque numbers. That dyno has never liked my ignition system that well for some reason. Also it was gonig lean quick on the race tune and manny shut it off early. The car has always needed a better fuel system but that is the next owner's responsibility. Its going on Ebay in a few weeks.

For those that don't know the car, the combo is 306ci, 63-1 turbo, Ported TFS-TW heads, ported Track Heat intake, small turbo cam and 38# injectors with a mostly stock fuel system (255 in tank and 255 pusher), a fully automatic AOD and tuned with an older PMS.

Car has run a best of 6.44 at 108mph and with slicks it usually ran 6.40s at the track. With M/T drag radials on the stock pony wheels it ran a best of 6.76 at 106mph and usually ran at least 6.85 on the Mickies.

You guys have fun and be safe at the cruise. It's my youngest daughter's birthday tomorrow and I won't be able to make it.

Kirk, sorry to hear that you're getting rid of the coupe. I love that car. Watching it make passes on Pony wheels was pure greatness. Are you getting a replacement toy?

Hope the wife and kids are doing good.

Damn, I hate to hear your parting with that sweet car. :( Why?

Damn, I hate to hear your parting with that sweet car. :( Why?I don't drive it much any more and to make it any faster requires a serious cash outlay which I'm not willing to do. I go through a 5-6 year cycle with projects it seems. Once its done, I'm on to the next thing. If I had lots of cash laying around I would like to put a dart block short block in it, road race suspension, a T56 and some giant brakes. 600-700 at the wheels or so but that lottery ticket hasn't hit yet!

Drive it like it is....if the car is clean, it's going to be hard to replace later on when you say....damn, I wish I had never sold that car!

But jeez the fun factor is still there and it is paid for. If I had extra cash laying around I would buy it, that is for sure. Good luck.

THis is my 2nd go round with a built Mustang. Next time I might try something a bit more modern like 04 Cobra with a couple of turbos on it.

Hate to see it go, Kirk, especially since I am going to be building one up again starting late summer if I can find the time. I have been drooling all over this new Boss 302 block and was considering building a turboed motor out of one...

Who am I going to play with at the track now? :(

Two kids take up a lot of my time on the weekends and I just don't have much time for it. I might get an 04 Cobra later on for a daily driver to have some fun with.

Wow man, I can't believe you are parting with it. I hate to see you get rid of it. I'm sure you will get some nice coin for it. I would put the Ponies back on it if you still have them. It came off as more of a sleeper that way and might carry alittle more $$$. Good luck with the sell and the new project.

Good numbers, and it sucks you are selling it... we never got our midnight runs in... :o

I've thought about selling my 86 a few times, but in all reality, it's going to be my daily driver soon if I sell the Cobra... I'm thinking bout getting another bike, and driving the 86 in the rain only. Glad I got some rain tires, and I'll probably pull the blower belt off for rain duty. :)

Why would you drive that car in the rain. Get you a cheap azz beater.

Its either that or my Porsch if I sell the Cobra...

I plan to buy a bike later this year to save on gas, so I may need to sell the Cobra... the 86 goes alright in the rain, its got a good suspension. Just gotta keep some treaded tires on it.
