Tractor Trailer Operator – Exam 240
Position: Tractor-Trailer Operator

Operates heavy-duty tractor trailers either in over-the-road service, city shuttle service, or trailer spotting operations.


The position may include irregular hours.

Job Requirements

Must have at least two years of driving experience, with at least one year of full-time experience (or equivalent) driving at least a 7-ton capacity truck or 16-passenger bus. At least 6 months of the truck driving experience must be with tractor-trailers. The driving must have taken place in the United States or its possessions or territories, or in U.S. military installations worldwide.
Safe driving record required
At the time of appointment, you must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License from the state in which you live, with air brakes certification, for the type(s) of vehicle(s) used on the job.
Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening to meet the U. S. Postal Service’s Employment Requirements. Applicants must also be a U. S. citizen or have lawful permanent resident alien status.

Applicants must complete an assessment questionnaire online or by phone to be considered for employment.
Online - Click “Exam Openings” below and search for opportunities by state.
By Phone – Call 1-478-757-3199 (TTY 1-800-800-8776) and follow the prompts. You must have an announcement number to apply by phone.
The assessment questionnaire that is completed online or by phone asks for specific information concerning an applicant’s driving history and safety record. Prior to completing this questionnaire, applicants are given the opportunity to request (or if online, print), an assessment worksheet (pdf) (rtf) to help them prepare for the questionnaire.
You must receive a passing score of 70 on the assessment to receive further employment consideration.
If you are determined to be eligible, you will continue the process for employment consideration

Forgot to mention the start pay for this position is $19.57 an hour

This is what my pops does. Lots of overtime avalible too guys!!!

He's maxed out a around 24.50hr or something like that, however makes 85,000 a year with overtime.

wish i had the experiance, sounds like what im looking for. trying to find something in the area, but only have 9 months experiance so nobodys intrested

Whitesmoke, i would apply anyway because by the time they call you for an interview you will probably have the one year experience needed. The test is done online when you apply at the USPS web-site and believe me the test is a joke, they just ask for things like how much experience you have and the more you have the higher your score will be at the end of the test.

Grayhorse, i think your dad is making more than $24.50 since the new Contract passed in Dec 06, i am sure he's making more.

Im not sure. He's maxed out though. The is NOBODY at the dallas post office with more sick time. He's never called in. lol :o

Alot of the Clerks that are close to retirement will burn there sick time before they retire. we just had this one lady that was gone for almost 2 years and finally retired.

My pops will lose all of it. He does believe in using it. :o
