View Full Version : Chest to waist RATIO

Is there any kind of facts or research out there for this? Just curious to where i stand.
5'11'' 195-200 lbs depending on certain factors.
44'' chest flexed
34'' waist relaxed.
16'' arms relax or 16.75 fully pumped after workout
Are these pretty good stats as far as body composition is concerned.
My body fat is not GREAT right now but it is dropping since i started doing cardio.

I know waist to hip ratio is indicative of disease risk. My hip to waist and chest to waist ration are the same though lol.

Body composition has little to do with measurements, 'cept maybe the waist to a degree. Different bone structures will measure differently. A perfect example is Adam and I. He is 6'4" (I think), 240ish lbs, and has a 32 inch waist. I on the other hand am 5'10", 210lbs, with a 34 inch waist, yet I'm a bit leaner than he is. I've simply got a thicker torso genetically.
Taking measurements is a good way to gauge progress, but I wouldn't go comparing yourself to others, as there are as many different body types as there are people.

my hips are 35 but if you go down to where it goes around butt then it is 40.

Have you done a race since your surgery?
A catastrophic off-road duathlon in February. I flat out couldn't run. Bike wasn't too too bad but the run just sucked.
Did the Meunster 100K bike rally (not really a race) and average 20.1MPH over a pretty hilly course so the bike speed seems there.
I got a mile open water swim downin Austin this weekend. I'm hoping to go sub 24 minutes. I didn't lose much on the swim recovering.
Biggest problem is the run and I find it difficult to maintain a 7 min/mile on anything over 5 miles. Which sucks bad since that is about my marathon pace pre injury. But given I couldn't walk 5 months ago I'll take it for now. I just hope there isn't a permanent loss of speed (or if there is it is minimal).
I pretty much gave up on the spring tris and I'll start doing one a month starting with any olympic distance in June and slowly building up to 1/2 ironman in September to a 3/4 ironman distance in November (1.86 mile swim, 80.6 mile bike, 18.6mile run)
If I can get the 3/4 done in less than 7 1/2 hours I'll feel I'm back.

How about a bench press your weight as many times as possible followed by a 5k run.
Deduct 30 seconds off your 5K time for each rep (which means you could go negative in your 5k time but doubtful. The best I've seen is a time of 1 minute 47 seconds with 29 reps of the body weight.

It honestly would be to hard to include everyone given all the different types of lifters on here. The rules would be tailored to a specific type, i.e. a cardio based competition would give 01whitecobra the advantage, where as rules slighted towards heavy lifting would give WL the advantage. Exactly. Muscularity and symetry are only a couple aspects of physical conditioning. There are plenty of pros that don't do cardio, much less are able to run a 10k. I personally would like to be a little smaller and be able to wakeboard all day.

that's going to affect your competition.
Yes i know, however this contest gives $1000 and over $500 in supps.
The powerlifting just gives me a metal. I'll be doing both though.

Personally, I would never want to look like that. I just want to get big enough to put up decent numbers, but still sit around 9%-10% and look healthy :p

239 lbs.
49" chest (originally put my coat size (60") on accident, not my chest size, doh!)
38" waist (about as small as it can get, can't shrink my hips and ass)
but only 17.25" arms (I need to build them up but when you're taller it's hard to gain even 0.25" in circumference)

I think he's saying how can your arms only be 12" if you're that size. Your arms should be at least 15" at your build if you're even halfway proportionate.

Kojak hit it, no way in hell you are benching 300 with 12" arms. Maybe if you have sunken biceps.

That's what I was thinking. He's either inflating his lift, or has no concept of diameter, and hasn't actually measured.
