I will be carrying more and more now since the world has gone fucking crazy and was wondering what you guys have found to be the best .45 round for carrying. Looking for something that won't zip right through the target and take out innocents. Educate me please.

Will be carried in a Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Make that a x4.

When I am not at the range my 1911 is full of 230gr Hydra-Shoks.

I carry Winchester Ranger SXTs. If you look at all the tests you can find online, you'll realize all the namebrand ammo perform about the same. None are absolutely perfectly consistent, so everyone's test will show slightly different results but all within the "effective" range. Given they're all about the same... here's how I decided.

Winchester Ranger SXTs... about $20 for a box of 50.
All other namebrand ammo... about $20 for a box of 20.

The free ones I get from work! I think the are Speer Gold Dots or Lawman or something. Best thing is they are free.

I have seen some good ballistic write ups. I am running their TAP ammo through my AR and took down a 130lb hog at 30 yards with one shot. I am very impressed with the results, but they are not cheep.

Do you really need +P ammo for home protestion when you are shooting a .45 in the first place?

sure, I agree... from my perspective, if you shoot someone with a .45 caliber bullet, its going to do a shitload of damage as it is... when you add, hollow point or bonded, its only gonna be worse...

I guess the point is, you want maximum damage from each round regardless of whether its one or five...

Guess I need to go buy some premium stuff for home... :)

Hydra-Shok FTW!

Sometimes I'll buy the 50ct. box of Silvertips if I can find them cheap just to keep some quantity on hand.

I have some 250gr cast keith wadcutters that I think would be awesome for defense, but I don't know if they would feed well in a semi.

We get 100rds a month if we want it but, you have to use it at our range only and they usually have so many classes and crap going on that it's hard to find a time to go.
