Yeah i think your pretty much stuck keeping it stock unless you get some custom work for it. I love those Model 10's but they seem just a little too out of balanced for my taste "feels nose heavy", so i settled for a Savage 99 instead.

I think the only other stock i can get for it is one from McMillan...
i think the rifle is great...the only thing heavy to me...is the stock. Its a good stock for bench shooting...but nothing else.

HELL YA they are....people dont give them enough credit! it's dead on acc.
i've shot out to 300 yards...but i want to shoot farther!
besides another stock and a lighter trigger...thats prob. all i'll do to this one!

I have a Model 99 in 300 Savage that was given to me when i was a kid. i hunted with it for a few years and love the feel of that old gun. I haven't shot it for 20 yrs. Damn, I'm getting old!

Accu trigger looks pretty good.

Any comments from someone that shoots one?

I bought a Savage 110 that I bought off of one of the guys on the board. He was unemployed and needing some money so I bought it off of him for a pretty good price. Beautiful rifle and it came with a Harris Bi-Pod and a Leopold scope. I wound up selling it back to him when I was thinking about going with a different rifle. Sold it to him for the same price and everything. I'll have to dig up some pictures and post them up. Man I regret selling :(

The Mcmillan stock will make it a tad lighter and easier to carry in the field, but this is essential a bench rest rifle. I have the same setup in .223, wish i had the .308.

the Model 10fp is the "Police" tactical version...it comes with a heavier 20'' ...and a stronger action with a bigger bolt. retail is around $650 with out the scope and bi-pod. i pick this on up for $550 with a 4x16 scope. i love it!!! nail driver!!!

the only thing i would be hunting with it would be hogs...so i would need something alil more practical to carry in the field. but when i am not hunting i want to get in to LONG distance shooting! i like the feel of the Mcmillan stock ALOT better then this one...

I've got a 10FPLE1A with the accutrigger and I love it. Shoots very nice groups at 100 yds...note the flyer out of this 5 shot group. This was with Hornady 155gr. TAP ammo. Can't wait to try some handloads.

Awwww :) S'ok... She's home now :D

But just to rub salt in the wound, couple months ago I shot a 5 round group of 1.2" at 750 yds in under 2 mins. Barrel was smokin hot but didn't waver a millimeter.

Nail driver indeed. It's the 10FP model, and completely stock other than the bipod and Leupold scope (upgraded to a VX-III 6.5-20 from the Vari-X III 3.5-10 that Jose remembers).

The McMillan A-5 Tactical is the only one I know of for "aftermarket". I never found a need for replacement.

Savage .308 is a budget sniper gun.

Biggest complaint is the stock is cheap, but that is how they keep the price down.

You can upgrade most of the parts on the rifle.

I've gone to acouple gun stores around Dallas....
and the Min. i tell the guys i have a Savage...all i hear about is how bad they are...
one guy stared at me for a min...and asked y i would waste my money...i should have bought a Remington 700. the he went on for about 15 min. trying to " show me the light " sayin i just need to use the Savage as my beater gun....

i say they are a damn good gun!

Typical gun store jibber-jabber. They've probably never shot one and just assume because Remington 700 is the industry standard then "that's the only way to go and everything else is crap!".

I could've gotten a 700 instead but by the time I got the trigger on one as nice as the accutrigger comes I'd be out close to $1K (gun and trigger work) and I'd still have to buy a mount, rings, bipod, and optics...So easily $2-2.5K. And who's to say it would even shoot as good then? And you'd void your warranty by modifying the trigger also.

Bah, I'll keep my "beater" Savage.:D
