stupid gun question

I fired my Ruger P-95 for the first time yesterday and when I cleaned it afterward and re-assembled after field-stripping, the barrel has a little bit of play when the slide is open....Is this normal?

Yes. It should lock up tight though.

Check your retaining pin to be sure but that is normal.

It locks up tight when the action is closed, and everything works properly, i.e. slide, slide release etc. Just wanted to make sure when the action was open a little barrel loose-ness is normal. This is my first semi-auto in case you can't tell!

No problem; it is loose because it has to be able to drop free of the locking lugs on the slide. And that model has very generous lugs so it feels really loose when open.
