My friend and my dad is coming up here to do this and signed me up. Anyone ever ridden in this or going to it this year. I think im going to do the 65K thats what my friend is doing his dad is doing the 100K. I have been riding around 20 miles twice a week, but never done 40, so I have two weeks to get their. hopefully my knee will hold up. I think the two free beers at the end will be some encouragement. :)

I'm contemplating doing the metric century. The family has been wanting to get out of Dallas lately and figured I might be able to combine it with some exercise. Couple free beers, sausage and Vince Vance and the Valiants. What more could you ask for?

Have you ever done it before? Just wondering how the ride is, flat/or lots of hills. My knee is feeling like shit today after yesterdays ride. Pretty bad when my only goal is to finish. I go in for my 6 month post op that week so im going to see what the doctor has to say. If nothing else I will just do the 20 mile.

The shorter distances aren't too bad in terms of hills (there aren't any real hills in North Texas!). Everyone starts the same way but you cut back east on the 65K where as the century keeps going northwards to Saint Jo and Bulcher and turn back southwards to Muenster. The 20 miler I believe is an out and back type of course.
It's a roller coaster but the harder hills are towards the end of the Century. The century is a bitch if you aren't trained. Overall its a great scenic ride.
Last year the weather sucked really bad at the start... raining, windy but warm. I did see a few people blown off their bikes with the 40MPH winds. By the end of the ride the weather was great.
Just keep thinking of the GermanFest after the ride and all will be well.
I might take my mountain bike up as well and hit Bar-H Breaks in Saint Jo on Sunday. http://www.barhbreaks.com/

Cool thanks for the info. I think if the hills are not to bad i can do the 40 mile. Im going to go to white rock tomorrow and try 30 miles out and see how that goes. I wish I could get back on my mountain bike, but falling off it right now scares the shit out of me, and I tend to crash alot on my mountain bike. Looks like some nice trails though.

Did you make it out there? I could not believe how many bikes where there. I managed to get through the 40 mile though.

Yep. Did the 100K on Saturday and ran the 15K race this morning.
There were a hell of alot of bikes this year. I didn't hear of anyone going down so that was good. Counted 20-30 people changes flats though. Was a great day for the bike. A little warm for the run but it was ok.
My 6 year old daughter won one of the Nagelshlagen contests. :D She got to use the flat end of the hammer though but she took out some adults.
Even after the 100K bike on Sat and the 15K run today and walking around both days I think I ended up gaining a pound or two from all the damn stuff I ate this weekend.

Nice, I saw a little wreck up at the 100K line before the ride started, but did not look to bad. Im sure i canceled out the exercise on just sauerkraut and German potato salad. I think im going to try and do one of these rides every month. I found that I pushed myself a lot harder riding with other people. than by myself.

I saw that one, it looks like a very cool ride. Im having surgery on the 11th, so I don't think i will be able to make that one.

Then git yer ass up to Austin next weekend. :D
I've done this one before and its a blast. Unfortunately I have another commitment next weekend or I'd be doing it again. It's a 93-miler but the payoff is worth it...

Schedule it for next year, you won't be disappointed! The one in 2009 should be really special since it will be the Spoetzl's Brewery's 100th anniversary.

That one looks awesome, but im pretty sure if i tried 93 miles right now, I would be found next week on the side of the road in a ditch. :o I think my main goal this summer is going to be to get in good enough shape for the hotter N' hell ride.

HTH is definetly a bitch I don't care what shape you are in you will feel it.
Hopefully it matches up with my training this year. I'm gearing up for some fall long distance triathlons coming off the achilles rupture (pretty much gave up on the early season and summer season and just doing it for fun).
The cool thing about the Shiner Bash is your traveling the same roads as Lance did gearing up for the tour wins. Pretty cool (for a bike geek like me anyway).
