How many of you incorporate soy into your diet/training regimen? I can tolerate it, but was looking for some more ideas on ways to consume it. Cereal and drinking it are okay. I'm trying to sub in soy where I would normally use reg. milk.
Anybody know of some health food high in soy as well? Soy grits? Any other products?
Thanks,
Karen

why don't you just use skim milk? It is not going to make a whole lot of difference unless you just consume a lot of milk products...I would have to look at the nutrutional value of both packages to really tell but I don't think you would be gaining or loosing that much going either way.

Soy is not only a dairy substitute, its a beneficial protein as well. It does the same as milk by providing calcium, but it also contains all the essential amino acids and have been proven to lower your Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL or bad cholesterol), aid and prevent digestive problems, and help kidney filtration. The isoflavones contained within provide antioxidants that help boost the immune system and alleviate fluctuating estrogens levels related to menopause and PMS.
Those are just a few things I can think of. I can go on and on of some of the great things with soy substitution. But I think it comes down to a matter of taste and availibility in locating many soy rich foods. I am trying to stick with a more beneficial and healthful diet to compliment my exercise regimen. I have a long way to go, but you have to start somewhere right?

Alot of the protien shakes on the market now are soy-based. I don't know how that translates specifically, but on a macronutrient level, soy is supposedly one of the best sources for protien.

Good call Karen. I've been reading about the benefits and the new found link between reduced Cancer risk and soy. I hope to find some easy-to-down solutions myself. And the whole PMS thing...Well, I think we can all benefit from that! :p

I tried a soy suppliment back when I was on my last workout
kick and lets just say that soy causes "bricks" in the
bathroom if you know what I mean. Not to mention it
tastes like crap.

soy milk is fuckin' nasty... soy powder is the nastiest thing on earth...
CORRECTLY prepared tofu is the BOMB!!!! I like it firm... the cilantro lime tofu at Whole Foods on Coit Rd. is THE SHIT!!!! I'm addicted to it...
I don't eat enough soy... it's good for guys because it blocks estrogen receptor sites... I know it's good for women, but I never really paid attention to why...
I'm sure I could benefit from more, but I've never been able to prepare tofu to my liking. :(
I eat the shit out of tuna, lotsa eggs, and a lot of whey...

Here's a heads up for you Karen, and anyone else with soy in their diet. I recently read in the latest Muscle and Fitness magazine, that soy in the diet reduces the body's ability to uptake vitamin E. The article recommends that you supplement E into your diet if you aren't already taking a multi-vitamin fortified with it to offset the effects of the soy.
