View Full Version : Track times for an 02 R1?

I have been toying with the idea of getting a track only bike for awhile, and just came across a good deal on a 99 R1 with an FI 02 R1 motor. I had someone run the numbers and the bike and motor are both clean i.e. not stolen as that was my first thought.

My question is what all has to be done to make these ready for the track?, and what kind of times 1/8th and 1/4 will they run?

Any opinions i.e. best mods?

Thanks

Funny you ask. I had an 02 R1 and ran in the 1/4 and 1/8. My bike was lowered and strapped with a high mount M4 slip-on. The bike put down 133RWHP.

1/8th was 6.7 @116MPH
1/4th was 10.2@141MPH

This was three years ago in Shreveport.

60ft times were only high 1.7's

I am a little dude. Probably around 125lbs or so at the time. Don't know the weight of me and the bike though. I am also not a very good racer. She has gone 6.6's in the eighth before with a better rider. Slam has an older R1 and it is fast as hell.

Ok, I am at 185 now, but would plan on slamming, stretching etc. so I could get some decent 60ft's

From what I am reading it is not as fast as a GSXR, or ZX, but I really enjoy riding my Busa and just want something to take out on track days and ride.

How low, and how long of a stretch did you go with? Also, did you strap it as well as lowing?

Thanks
