OK I am looking into getting a pistol for my wife. I travel a lot with my job and I want something for her to have "in case." Any recommendations? I was thinking a 380 or something similar. She is only 5'2" and 105 so she doesnt need something that will kick too much. Thanks.

beretta tomcat 32 acp with winchester silver tips. Small, flip-up barrel easy for small hands to operate.

Any compact 9mm would work really. You could also get her a smaller caliber .380, a .32, or even a .38 snub nose revolver. Just get her to shoot a few and see what she is comfortable with. Thats the main thing.

9mm is a good round that wouldn't get too messy at point-blank range. Just make sure you dispose of the body properly, and you're golden.

My friend about the same size as your wife has a Bersa .380, it's pretty nice and hardly kicks at all. Plus, she can like triple lock it down if she's worried about safety.

i thought the title meant a trade :o
My wife has a S&W 39-2 that she shoots. She doesn't carry so the size isn't an issue, but the recoil is not a problem for her. I had to get it after she tried shooting my Glock 21 and almost broke her thumb. Her hands wouldn't even fit around the grip.
I bought my g/f a Glock26 but I would recommend a light weight .38 revolver.

A revolver is easier to deal with.
I think most people can handle a .357mag/.38 special. Just put some Corbons or other self-protection round in .38 Special in there. Let her shoot some .357 and +P. If she is comfy with it, then great.
If she wants to take the time to learn a semi-auto, then a 9mm or .380ACP.
But I think a semi-auto takes a lot more devotion.
My sister shot the .41 Ruger Blackhawk. She didn't like. She did a good job, but obviously not a practical self-protection gun. She's 5'1" and average strength for a woman. She likes the .38.

I know somebody's not gonna like this, but you can pick up those FEG contract Walther PPK clones for about $150, including tax and shipping. That would leave ample budget room for a CHL, and a class, both of which would be smart for her if you're not around. Hell, you just made it known on THIS board! :p

Ive found that women like the Taurus 111PTI. Titanium and black polymer. Very very light and small. Perfect for a small womanly hand with 9mm stopping power.

I have a Bersa .380 and love it I've had for a little over 2 yrs now and no problems at all, the main think to these guns are just finding the right ammo for personal protection. Starfires work really well. For pratice it will shoot anything.

Take her out and rent several different calibers. My wife shot eveything from a .38 to a 44 mag and was sold on the .40 so I bought her a HK compact .40. My wife is the same size and the recoil is not a concern. It all comes down to a gun that is comfortable for her to shoot.

My mom has a lady smith in 38 special. My step mom has a 380 Bersa. I think both guns are great. the Bersa is cheap and you can get them at Academy. We have shoe serveral boxes of shells from standard loads to hydra shocks and it has yet to jam.

Home defense? 4' barrel 38 spec. revolver, carry gun? 2" barrel 38 spec, or if she is comfortable with guns a .380 or 9mm semi auto.....

In a revolver, I recommend a .38 Taurus or S&W. In an autoloader, a Taurus PT111 Millineum PRO, small and lightweight, 9mm stopping power, very affordable, about 300 bucks. I have both for my own conceal carry, my wife shoots them both and is quite comfortable with them.

I've shot some .380s and they seem to be more jumpy and snappy than 9mm.
Don't rule out .45s either. The .45ACP is more of a push than a snap. As long as she leans forward, it won't be an issue. You want her to have the most firepower available.
