try curves. :) most big gyms wont give you $0 down. It can happen, but you'll have to pay something within the month you sign up.

Curves it is!
I don't know why they wouldn't do $0 down. If the $25/mo they're getting from me is $25 more than they'd have if I didn't join, why not? Unless the down payment is commission for the salesperson, I don't see why I couldn't haggle my way out of it.

Don't the abbreviations for words typically use letters from the word? Plus, month is a one syllable, five letter word. It would take one lazy ass mother fucker to want to abbreviate that. To answer your question though, I don't know.

Have you actually seen or heard of anyone that gets the $49 a year deal? My wife and I did that and somewhere in the fine print it said there was a $100+ program fee which they were kind enough to spread out throughout the year... ends up being like $16 a month after taxes and all the BS. I tried to fight it but it's in the fine print of the contract... oh well... I guess it's still cheaper than everyone else. If you end up doing that 3 year deal just make sure they write on your contract that it's $49 or whatever a year with no other fees.

I paid 300 dollars up front for 3 years at 24 hour, and my yearly renewal is 100/yr.
That's like 8-9 bucks a month. Even if i only use it occasionally it's worth it.
And no matter what, the manager has the power to do whatever he wants as far as pricing goes. They'll tell you they can't, but if numbers are low, they'll do whatever it takes to get more members.
