Her cancer has returned, and though he is not of my political persuasion, I wish them all the luck in her ability to stay healthy and alive. They seem like good people, and I hated to hear it.

yeah, I wish them the best. I dont know if he would be a great president, but he seems like a pretty good guy.

My mother died one month ago from ovarian cancer after much physical suffering . Believe Me, it was an extremely unpleasant experience.
Good luck Elizabeth!

My take is they are milking this like nothing else.

First there was a "leak" that he was ending the campaign, and a news conference was scheduled, and the only "news" is that he is still running.

And if she does get worse it may get even more sympathy voting. Plus she is now a mini-celeb, which puts him miles ahead in terms of media attention. Hillary has just about worn out her mini-celeb husband's status, and the Camelot crown is no longer hers.

Yea, nothing like milking breast/bone cancer for all its worth.

Get real dumbass.

That's how I see it. Why was the news conference even held? I'm still extremely skeptical of the timing and the actions. I couldn't care less about her health either.

Casper:

Didn't the Edwards first announce that she'd been diagnosed only after Kerry/Edwards conceded defeat in the last election? Doesn't seem like much of a ploy for attention to me and I wish them both the best of luck.

Because he is a fucking public figure and he wanted to stop any rumors and explain the situation.

Regardless of if they held the press conference or not the information would have made it to the media. They wanted their story out there.

I'm just talking about this current announcement. It is just campaigning as usual IMO.

If his campaign started the rumors then you see how it adds up. I say "if" of course.

I totally agree, and I still wish the best for her health. Now...on with the campaign!

I don't know John Edwards personally so I can't say with 100% accuracy that he wouldn't use it I just find it doubtful.

Having a family that has been fucked by cancer multiple times I don't see how any family would use it to their political advantage.

1st, I feel bad for the family and wish them the best. Bone cancer is a tough sentence.

2nd, before Casper becomes the object of school yard smear the queer, go back and listen to everything that was said. She said upon finding out about the big casino that John rushed home but she told him he must continue the run for President because it wouldn't be right for her to deny the American people the best candidate. That should be worth a 5-10% jump.

Smear the queer, I remember that game!

I don't wish any of them ill necessarily, but I also wouldn't put it past a presedential hopeful.

He can pick up Richardson, or any halfway moderate hispanic VP, and really seal the deal.

Yea, I'm sure that is the first thing that entered her mind... Let's get John on the phone and when he rushes home I'll tell him to go on campaigning it will be worth a 5-10% jump in the polls!

Give me a fucking break. Just because he is a politician doesn't mean his entire life is political. He has a wife he loves very much and two very young kids at home.

Timing isn't right for an empathy vote boost.

Scott, I think this one's legit. Your skepticism is refreshing though.

I like the guy just fine, doesn't offend me one bit. I wish him, his wife, and their family all the best in this tough time.

Casper
03-22-2007, 02:50 PM
Maybe so. Or he may have even talked to her and they decided together that this would be a unique opportunity to show their commitment to one another and to their supporters at the same time. There are "legitimate" reasons to exploit this.

DORAN
03-22-2007, 02:52 PM
They might try to put a positive spin on a very bad situation as far as the polls but I still think as a man with a full family his staff is the one telling him to continue. The wife might want him to continue, before her life is over and hopefully not for a long time what a honor to try and be the first lady

Casper

Or a staffer could have made the bow-out leak on his or her own without Edwards knowing about it until too late.

Casper

...and would still put him at about 3rd, at best.

But puts at #1 over Richardson and Obama for VP candidate.

Health care and wealth redistribution are his main passions on this campaign trail, which mesh perfectly with any other candidate's focus on Iraq, especially a certain senator who once wanted socialized medicine....

you know casper, my former nickname for you was pompous sanctimonious ass  , but now i am changing it to just being a prick that is bereft of common decency.

regardless of political affiliation john edwards is a stand up guy and his wife is a resilient, erudite, and classy lady.

this was or isn't a political ploy.

let me explain to you have post remission cancer protocol works. since she went into remission in '04 she has routine oncology checkups that include cbc blood test, chest xrays/mammography, and mri or cat scans. that can happen at varying intervals. probably, in her case she goes is for a battery of tests on a 3 - 4 month interval. these test are planned and happen on a routine basis.

i wish elizabeth edwards all the best.

Casper
03-22-2007, 04:01 PM
But that won't fit in the title box :(

Maybe "bereft of common decency" will. I like it but on this board it doesn't really stand out. And "prick" by itself is just too general for this group.

Still, you may have a point about edwards being a resilient, erudite, and classy lady just like his wife.

To everyone calling Edwards a stand up guy... uummm he's a lawyer, that's all I have to say on that.

Tort reform wha?...

What I want to know is why do THEY get a press conference? What about the other millions of people who are suffering from cancer and have financial problems. What kind of notoriety do they get? I HOPE TO GOD they have the denceny and are not exploiting this for political reasons. It just seems odd to me the timing on this time and the last that they announced in 2004. BTW, IM NOT SAYING THEY ARE, Im just hoping they arent.

What I want to know is why do THEY get a press conference?

because he is running for president, so it's a major news story.

just like how you hear on the local news about the trials and tribulations of britney spears and kevin douchebag.

when you are any kind of celebrity your life issues become public domain. and that applies to human interests topics of value like elizabeth edwards being diagnosed with bone cancer, or a completely trivial and petty topic like britney spears shaving her head.

Don't make him cry Chris. He's very emotional about all this. It happens to half the people in America about once a month.

Politically motivated announcement or not, I don't really care. I wish her my best and hope she can recover, and swiftly at that.

I was going to stay out of this topic until I saw the announcement yesterday. I was about to jump on the "Bash Casper" bandwagon for being an ass in a time like this for the Edwards family, but it appears to be the case. It's sad and pathetic, really. Since his politics are a weak case, I guess he'll be scraping for the pity vote now.

I don't care that much for edward's politics and questionable business dealings in the past, but I also would not wish cancer on anyone, and I hope she can get it back into remission again.

If she has breast cancer, that means the breast cancer has migrated to the bones (metastasis). So it is not bone cancer.
The cancer can be very painfull.
Let's say the cancer migrates to the digestive organs. A hard casing of cancer forms around the stomach, small intestines and large intestines. This case shuts down the the ability of these organs to contract. Any food taken in is rejected. One can not eat. The pain has been reported 10 times worse than childbirth. The next step is hospice because there is no medical cure left. The family sits around and watchs the suffering and tries there best to make the last days comfortable. During this time a pain medication is given round the clock that is much stronger than morphine. The pain is reduced but muscle control is slowly lost. Not only is the cancer sufferer in a world of pain but now is paralyzed. After weeks of watching this, the family has come to the horrifying realization that they wish the family member would die to stop his/her suffering. A blessing is the pain medication that caused paralysis stops the heart.
Start to finish: 2 years- major surgery, followed by 3-6 series of sickening chemo that gives 3-4 months clear, followed by several series of chemo that does nothing followed by a painful death.
