Just freaking awesome. He is the 2nd us born player to hit 500 and is only 3 goals away from having the number one spot :D He is the 39th all time player to do it. Congrats MO

I swear I was one of the first on my end of the ice (behind opposite goal) to notice it. But Modano's bowling over of Pitkanen was right in my wheelhouse. The Stars could have won that game 4 or 5-1 if they werent trying to feed Modano all goddamned night. I did think it was cool that Klemm got his 100th assisst on the milestone goal.
If anyone thinks that Modano will score 3 on Thursday against the Flames, I'll sell ya my seats:)....and I have a soccer game.

I was happy for him, but towards the end of the game I was interested in what happened to Nagey. The WHOLE post game show was about Modano though. Nagey got knocked over good, and did not get mentioned once.
Anyone know what happened to the poor dude? (Injury, eta for recovery...etc?)

Yup, same here. No mention of either of these players on the post game show or the web site. Of course they always are sort of cryptic/hide what's going on with the injuries.

RyanB
03-15-2007, 08:17 AM
Nagy probably wont miss any games, he's a hockey player not a baseballer. Connor will probably be out a couple weeks. He's a speed/finesse palyer, he needs his wheels to be effective. Lessard is a bigger guy, will be an interesting exchange. In the third period the Stars were essentially missing an entire line of forwards. Connor got hurt, Nagy got hurt, and Barch was in the box for all but 3 minutes of the period.

Yeah he will go to the net, but his poor skating will hold him back. It is a different game than when Anderchuk could survive while not being a skilled skater.
On another note, and I know me and you have talked about it, it still looks as if Ott has no place in the lineup anymore. I say trade him for a bag of used pucks.

I never thought he was all that great, but he did hold his own in his fights. Unlike, lets say...Barnaby and he seemed like a cool dude. Rather see him in the lineup then Barnaby.

Barnaby holds his own in pretty much every fight, the guy has a cement head but it has taken a pounding over the years. Ott on the other hand could and probably should be replaced with Barch, as he is a better all around player and will drop at any time.

I'll focus on his skating tonight. Where are you gonna watch the game, I might go and I might not. My soccer game doesnt start until 1115.
Ott in fights...Didn't he try to jump some kid in juniors and get filled in? :D I agree, it will be tough for him to get back into the lineup when/if he returns. Ott is limited offensively, but is above average defensively. Ott's narrow range of opponents will keep him from being a true enforcer. There is no way Ott could hold onto Fedoruk, wheras Barch would light him up. Barch > Ott in pretty much every way.

I like Barch too. I use to hate ott because he would always get in fights and get the ever living shit beat out of him. He has gotten alot better at fighting, but he is still not that great. What I do like about Ott is he pisses everyone off and gets shit stirred up. He also brings alot of energy to his line and always skates hard.

One thing I did admire about Ott...regardless of size, he'd take them on. Although Barnaby did the same.

IMHO, Modano is a big player in the Stars franchise. But damn, we have some many players that are great or borderline great - and that's what makes the Stars.
Zubov, Morrow, Smith (He will be great if he keeps it up), (errrr) Turco, and a slew of other players that I can't spell their names. :) I think Zubov is cool as hell, but Morrow is kick ass. Just hope he can get up to speed before the post season.

Turned out to be a pretty good game for Zubov. His goal gave the Stars a 4-3 lead, he was credited for the assist on the winning goal, he checked Carcillo like a mofo, and he got the star of the game (Ribeiro got greased).

He's great for the Stars, agreed. He's not great by NHL standards. If he was considered "great" by NHL standards, then so would guys like Draper, Yelle, Anson Carter, etc. They're run of the mill guys who play their asses off day in and day out and occasionally get a 50-60 point season.

I agree with that he just plays his heart out and thats what I like about him. We have a few players that are worth more to us than they would be to somewhere else. And I agree with the 5 games good call

Players like that are a must on every team. While they may not be great by NHL standards, they are irreplaceable by team standards...Morrow is a perfect example of that, as is Ian Laperriere (sp?) for the Avs.

Anson Carter and Kirk Maltby compared to Morrow? Are you kidding me? Look at points per game over their careers (because I don't want to :)) and you'll see that Morrow outshines them easily.
D, I'm too lazy to go quote, and I've had maybe 15 hours of sleep in a week, but While Joe Sakic himself may be a "king of modesty" his home announcers are fucking homers with their "SUPER JOE SAKIC....." everytime he touches the puck.
And Lanny, I thought it was more than 3 strides, not 5??

I didn't say anything about Maltby? And with players like Morrow, points are irrelevant because of their meaning to their team. I was merely pointing out that if people are going to call Morrow "great" by NHL standards, they might as well call the other players and ones like them great.
Sakic has had the nickname "Super Joe" for a long time. Peter McNabb has been with the Avs since they moved to Colorado...they're hardly "homers" compared to other announcers I have had the displeasure of listening to. But, regardless of the announcer, they all say "Super Joe"...even in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
You can throw other people like Forsberg in to that category with his "Peter the Great" tag...
I also thought it was three strides, not five.

Sorry it was Draper and Yelle, I'm sleepy. You're right the Avs announcers have NOTHING on the Sabres, but they are pretty brutal in my opinion (radio guys at least.) The TV crew is slightly better.

Charging by the rulebook says "a player or goalkeeper who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner."
"Charging shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any matter. A "charge" may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame, or open ice."
But there doesnt appear to be any "set" distances and judgement is based upon the refs.
It used to be something like if a player got rid of the puck, a checking player cannot take more than three strides to make contact, or it was a penalty.

3 or 5 depending on what "unwritten rule" you listen to.
Morrow is a good player but great is a long stretch. He is more a modern day Wendell Clark. The heart and sole of the team but he is going to need a strong supporting cast.

Morrow is a good player but great is a long stretch. He is more a modern day Wendell Clark. The heart and sole of the team but he is going to need a strong supporting cast.
Good comparison. I'm just saying he isn't purely a grinder, checking line guy. He has top 6 skill on most teams...just a little slow in the new NHL, but definitely a guy to build around.
