View Full Version : Sound gone?
One day after restarting my computer it made a strange beep and then after that my sound stopped working. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks.

Have you checked all your plugs from speakers to comp? have you checked all your settings to ensure everything is turn up or on...also if you have a Ipod or something plug your speaks in to that to see if you speakers still work .....
Yes I checked the plugs to everything and then plugged in a set of headphones that work on my mp3 player but those wouldnt work either. Also everything is turned up and not muted.

go to your BIOS and check to make sure everything is on with that...do you just have a motherboard Sound or do you have a sound card?
Its onboard sound card. Will go check my BIOS now.
BIOS also checked out to be fine. Hmm

Is it possible that your comp. may have downloaded some sort of update? I know that after some of the updates my sound will not work for some reason so I just restore to the last know time that the speakers were working :)

another thing ...check all your sounds players Winamp which can controll all of your sound volume, Windows Media player, Quick time ..etc etc make and turn all those all up
Yea i've tried all the media players too =D. Yea i'm comfortable with it and I will check it now, thanks.
On more than one occasion I've had to reset the cmos memory on my mobo to get some of the onboard systems back online. (IDE drives, onboard LAN, sound, etc.)
Yea I didn't really smell anything burnt and couldn't see anything burnt, I'll try resetting my CMOS real fast too. Totally slipped my mind to try that too, thanks.

I had the onboard sound go out on an Asus board, actually, it was only the front two channels, the rest worked fine. Weird thing was, even when I tried adding a PCI sound card, it too would not work on the front channels. On closer inspection, I found a small section that was charred on the mobo.

Yea I just noticed my mic won't work either so I am going to try adding a new sound card and see if that will work. Now to find time to get one :D Thanks guys.
