I just bought a laptop from my friend who knows nothing about the hardware on it. It has a built-in wireless card, and since I don't already have one I'm going to buy a wireless router. Do I need to know anything about the card that affects which router I should get? Any suggestions on a router otherwise?
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300 (he bought it in 06).

Nope. I like a Linksys wireless because it is stupid simple to install, but a Netgear is better.

Honestly, the Linksys is good, but will freeze up on ya every once in a while. All you do is unplug the power for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Give it about 30 seconds to remember what it is and then it will work.
Walmart has them.

I think I can deal with that. Thanks.

Linksys is owned by Cisco - world leader in network technology. I have had nothing but problems from NutGear...Ebay for a Cisco WAP or get a Linksys...good stuff!
