Gaming or comic book conventions coming to the area?

Didn't get a response on the Back Porch, so I'll try here.

Ok, I know someone on this board knows about this stuff. A buddy of mine used to go to Akon or whatever and I've seen some of the nerd babes in costumes on line. (pretty much my only interest in going). My wife's cousin is 14 and he loves comic books. He is very talented drawing and creating characters. I knew he'd love to go to one of these shows. Anyone know where we could just go geek out? Do these shows come around often? Is there a mailing list? I don't care to hang out on some forum dedicated to it.

Go to pvponline.com and drop Scott Kurtz a line. He's local and a very highly held cartoonist, posts about the cons he goes to and I know some are local. I know that at the very least we get the Dallas Comic Con a few times a year.
