Looking into a Apple Macbook... Need suggestions.

Hey guys does anybody have a MACbook or MACbook Pro Laptop?

I was wondering where "if anywhere" was the cheapest place to buy them....

I don't know about the cheapest place to buy, but I got my Macbook about a month ago at the Apple store in Southlake. It's been great having a computer that doesn't take crap on a regular basis. And Bill can keep his POS Vista monster. I'll never go back to PCs. If you are wanting something very cost-effective, check out the iMac mini. It's a small package that has a lot of capability.

All CompUSAs in DFW, except for Plano on 75 and Frisco, are going out of business. All CompUSAs have an Apple section.

My advice is to wait it out and buy there. According to a manager I spoke with, the liquidation sales start on Wednesday.

BTW, I've got a MacBook Pro and it is fantastic. Evil Jose has a Mac too.

yep i know UTA offers a discount on apple computers. I have a an older apple laptop for school. it works great got it for 300 bucks off ebay.

I love my Mac and would highly recommend one to any of my friends. Now trying to buy a Mac on a budget is going to be hard. I wouldn't wast my money on an older G4/5 Processor and just get an Intel processor one. I'd keep an eye on Craiglist and see if you can find a good deal on one. If you can't afford a laptop go with a Mac Mini.

Yeah they are expensive computers. But like the guy said above, fuck Vista. I was looking at new PC laptops other day with Vista Premium running and talk about a memory hog. Not worth it.

That brings me to this question. How does OSX do about memory consumption under normal use (surfing, office apps) etc..

And has anyone played WOW on a macbook pro on here?

Unlike Windows, I don't know nearly as much about the OSX memory management model. However, my observations of performance during daily use have noted that three apps tend to be the biggest memory hogs. Those are Safari, Firefox, and Dashboard. I believe the browsers use up memory because they are actively caching pages in memory so they can be quickly reloaded if needed. Tabbed browsing also contributes to this memory usage. Dashboard is the application that houses all of the WIDGETs that the Mac uses. The more widgets you have, the more memory is burned. However, even with all of these running, I rarely need the full 2GB of RAM my MacBook Pro has. The only time I need all that RAM is when I'm running a virtual machine and that is because I assigned 1GB or RAM to it.

IMO, if you are not going to run any VMs, 1GB or RAM is plenty.

If you do want to run VMs AND other apps at the same time, I recommend 2GB.

If you are going to do any video editing, 1GB is fine but 2GB is highly recommended.

If you want to do any photo editing, I recommend 1GB minimum...

Ripping MP3s, playing iTunes, websurfing, word processing and other tasks can get by with only 512.

BTW, if you buy the base Macbook with 512MB, I recommend you buy any extra RAM separately. Apple is even worse than Dell when it comes to overpricing their RAM.

The MacBook can hold up to 2GB or RAM. The MacBook Pro can hold up to 3GB.
