So, out of all the drivers on this site who have Mustangs - only 6 of us can actually drive them? Well I mean other then in a straight line.
hehe...and ya'll make special groups for the Laps for Charity. No wonder, you actually have to turn on that track. Probably a bit too much for most of ya'll. I understand, I'm still learning too.

In all seriousness folks, if you try this out you will be addicted. Drag racing is fun for the first second or two and at most 10 or so seconds. This is non-stop action for 1-2 minutes. There are some really cool people at the event.

Heck, you don't even have to race. You can just come out and watch the fun or ride along with someone.

Good to see more mustangs out there then vettes this time.
I am sure the numbers will change. You will see more Vettes by end of signups on Friday night.
But as Ceyko said feel free to come out and just watch. Many people do ridealongs just bring a helmet. The Bimmer club is quite accomodating and they do not mind the American muscle at all. A 1.5 mile lap 8 times with quarter mile stretches allows the car to breathe and then suck it all in when you have to drop to 20 miles an hour to make a sharp turn.
There use to be a couple of guys AcidPete, bobbaganosh, labora, John..., aggie97 but aggie97 moved on to better things and only comes out once in a while between repairs of his AI car :)

That vette was sweet. I would have been on the list of potential suitors as it sounded, looked and ran well.
Yes you can run with the Top heavy lightning just ensure your brakes are up to par. And you will not be able to drive it like the Vette, something about braking earlier. ;)Dean Yamada drove a lightning for a year with them and had to just watch the brakes carefully other than that he had a blast.
Other cars are welcomed. The more the merrier.
Motorcycle are the only ones they do not allow because of insurance purposes.

You can pack some snacks or a lunch, but alot of people goto the subway down the street. You have probably about an hour to go grab a bite to eat, maybe more. Depends on how many people are there, looks like its going to be busy!

That was a blast! It was definitely a different thrill from drag racing. I still like drag racing but I think I like both. I still need a lot of seat time. My last four runs were like 123.xxx, 118.xxx, 117.xxx and 116.xxx. I was surely getting better each time. I think my stall converter is hurting me though. Coming out of the turns I kick the gas pedal down and it stalls up and hits the tires. I kept breaking traction and fishtailing. It was still a blast. Just imagine hauling ass to the nearest Walmart and back without worrying about cops or other cars. That's autocross! Hehehe...

I was wondering how your stall would play with your ability to perform on the track. Not really sure if there is a decent solution to have a car that's good at both. Might need to chalk it up to just having fun out there. 116 is really good for a first time out there and a car you've only built for straight line stuff. Maybe you'll just have to get good at drifting and doing all the turns that way. hehe
My best was a 107.xxx something, I can't remember the xxx but I know Chili got me by .387 or something like that. :)
Looking into brakes now. I think those will help the most for what I need to do. The blower is nice to have, but it does not help when I can't get up to a decent speed cause I can't stop fast enough. haha Brakes do not appear to be cheap either.
Look forward to seeing ya'll at TMS.

I need to correct myself from earlier, my best was in the 106's but I hit a cone, so the actual time was 107. I think my official best was 107.3xx, which was my last run, my first of the day being 116. I'll have to look at the sticker. I'm pretty happy considering my only suspension mods are lowering springs. The only thing I really plan on are some shocks and struts and maybe LCA's. I may do UCA's too, depending on my pinion angle. Oh, and I need the subframe connectors.. Oh, and.. Oh shit, here I go again. :o

You don't have SFC yet? Man, even with the blower I still think SFCs are the best mod I've ever done. Call me weird, but the over all feel of the car was much nicer afterwards.

I had a great time yesterday, guys. I finally ran in the fun run and ran a 120.xx. It was my first run ever and it was in a friends car that I had never driven. I also didn't know they were keeping time so I let off after the second slalom set. Lots of fun and I plan on registering myself as a driver next time. :)

just get some Cobra Fronts and good pads for the front and rear .. and you should be fine ..
I'm currently looking at this...
http://www.stangsuspension.com/store/comersus_viewitem.asp?idproduct=446
or the 10th ann edition...can't figure out the different...
or these...with some cobras in the rear....

Not a brake guru...so it's going to take awhile to figure out what exactly I'm going to do. :)

I sold Cheezebandit the 10th anny Cobra brakes I had on my 94 GT after it got totalled. There isn't a difference between them and the standard cobra brakes other than they are red coated instead of gray/black. 99+ cobra brakes have twin 40mm pistons as opposed to 94-98 that have twin 38mm pistons (IIRC). They were great on my car, and I think Dusty is pleased with them on his car as well.

Ah, that's good to know. I did not yet sit down and compare them line by line...certainly does not justify a 50 dollar difference.
At this point, I'm exploring the abnormal options but am still trying to decide if the Cobra R brakes are worth the money. 4 piston vs 2 piston seems pretty big. But for all I know the regular 2 piston brakes are all I need. We'll see...just have to read/study it till my eyes bleed or something. haha
Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

You can find the 2000R setups for 899 or less now....just shop around. Uses the stock Cobra Rotor and pads CAN Be cheaper. You will also have nothing to worry about for brakes in the future no matter what you throw at it....just make sure your current wheels and your soon to be track wheels work with them. I run them on my race car so they are up to the task. Don't waste your time on a cobra front swap because your car is too heavy and they don't work much better than the stock 99+ GT fronts....Also, with the brembos, swapping pads at the track is about a 2 minute endeavor each side. Stock rears are fine for just about anything short of door to door racing like what I am doing.
I hope to have a passenger seat in the car for the May or June event so if you want to have a real ride in a FAST fairmont, come on out....just don't be offended if I kick you out for a lighter run!! ;)
Actually, now that I think about it, I have like 5 sets of pads for the brembo setup that are more street/AX friendly I will let go for $75 set....usually $150....

It's WAY more than just 2 piston to 4 piston difference. The swept area on the same rotor face is about 40% more on the Brembo setup. WELL worth the 400 dollar difference over time!

Thanks for the information. It seems the options for the front are plentiful and I'd just throw on the caliper/rotors..etc for the rear. If I can find the 00 R brakes for 800ish, I'll probably go that route. I don't see myself doing AI type stuff anytime soon, simply can't afford it and want to keep the car real streetable. No good reason I just want it street legal and all.
I have no problem getting kicked out of a car for a lighter run. I'll take you up on the offer though - let me know when that ride is available.

Eh, I spoke too quickly. The 00 R brakes require 18x9s...I'm still running 17x9s, so that sort of shoots that idea down. :)

I have multiple 17x9 wheels that fit the brembo setup... And with a heavy ass street car, you can never have too much brake!

I read several sites that said 18x9s will be needed, but I have 17x9 03/04 wheels...and have read on forums that they will work. You're the 3rd person who's claimed to have done it and it worked. (I'm pretty confident you're not BS'ing. :)) No spacers, just throw the wheels on right?
Best I've found is 950 for the fronts, let me know if you see them for less. :)
Take care,

I run 17X9 and my brakes have a bigger footprint than the 00R brakes.
Your 03 Cobra wheels will work with those brakes.
Fixed caliper is a much better design than the floating design OEMs use on most cars.
2750...How much sheetmetal did you remove?
Question on setup. I have the MM front and the front grip was outstanding and then I put in the EVM Trilink and watts link and now I have aewsome rear traction but I have lost my front traction.
Any cle to what spring ratesto use front and back. Right now I am at 425/325........Should I go softer in front or stiffer in rear.

Thank you :D
I had alot of fun today too. Honestly, the truck was JUST as fun as my z06 was, i really enjoyed it. Here's some pics. My best was in one of the fun runs, and was a 108.2x not bad for a big ass truck. My best time that counted was 109.7xx :)
next upgrade... LOWER THE TRUCK... and brakes :D... and make it louder :D
hey do you have any more pictures of the event? specificly my miata and an old silver integra?

Lot's of sheet metal. Start thinking MORE front camber/less caster, and raise the front suspension some....may need a stiffer spring. I would start there.
325's in the rear work great for a torque arm setup because of the long arm of travel. However, with a 3 link, I would Imagine that is like running a 450lb rear on my setup which would require 650's in the front to get the right balance. You can also play with shock settings and tire pressures to balance the car for now like lowering pressure in the front and raising in the rear....but beware of tire wear.

Sup guys...
I'm Andrew's friend, the guy with the older silver integra. That course was a blast, and there was definantly tons of room to get good speed. The SCCA courses are much tighter and typically 4 runs compared to Saturday's 8 runs plus fun runs.
I remember the red lightning and thinking "yeah we've got an auto-x'er"....
Same with the red mustang..... When Andrew zoomed up and was swerving back in behind you I was like "I hope he knows them, please don't piss people going to the same event off."
It was funny when all three of us were on that one stretch of 180 going like 95....just the typical Saturday morning haul. :D
hahaha
Anyone catch that 80's Porsche that was on a trailer...we thought he would be heading to the auto-x too but apparently not.
For the next event I think I'm going to see if I can get a photography major from school to come and take pics for us...

Just cause my L weighs 4650 with out me in it.. doesn't mean i can't throw it around some corners :D

So sign up for the April 1 at TMS. A little smaller but still lots of fun and usually one good strip for some speed, and still 8 runs although the fun runs are limited by the clock.

I hope to be ordering hoo hoos this next week for the next event at mineral wells. you pansies are going to see what a mustang can really do to those AWD bastards at the front. I typical ran within a couple tenths of Jim Harris on Toyos...I want to see their faces when I roll in on Hoosiers!

You shouldhave showed up you could have used my Hoosiers I forgot my lug nut and could not use them
See you at the next event though. I need to find a 94/95 Cobra front Swaybar to help with my front grip issue or a latemodel V6 auto bar. MM says I should drop to 325 in the rear and downgrade the front swaybar or upgrade the rear swaybar.

Eh, you're up there with the elitist racers - on nice tracks. You'll probably poop when you hit a pot hole again. Or lose control when your going through a turn and hit a 5'x5' area of weeds taller then you. :D
