Any updates on blue ray's longivity(sp)

I still wanna buy a PS3, but i dont think i wanna spend $600 if i dont have to. I can wait a few years till it goes down. But if blue ray is gonna stick, ill go ahead and buy one, as the PS3 would make a real cheap blue ray player. Think Blue ray is gonna stay around?

Nobody has a crystal ball. However, there's enough out there to last a few years anyways, by then whatever's out will be nearing if not already obsolete. Do you already have a native 1080p tv?

Personally i think HD-DVD's are gonna win this war.

Do you have a native 1080p TV?

The cheapest right now is the original Samsung BD-P1000, it was pretty buggy, but decent after quite a bit of firmware updates, you can pick them up from $350-$500.

The PS3 is the next step up and isn't that bad, if you have a native 1080p TV. You can pick one up anywhere from $400-$800, depending on amount of games/blu-rays etc. I had the PS3 when it originally came out, then sold it because of the lack of firmware updates. But, got one again last week and the picture on the 1080p is much better than it was previously. It looks great on the WD-65732 that I just picked up.

I have a decent collection of hd-dvd's and blu-rays, so I'm waiting on the new LG-dual drive to come out, it should be around $899+ at most places + shipping, etc.

From the HD-DVD side, I'd recommend the Toshiba HD-A20, it's the newest 1080p native mid-level priced HD-DVD player and it looks pretty awesome.

Also, I'd recommend Netflix for Blu-ray/HD-DVD rentals. Pretty fast send times and cheap considering the cost of the blu-ray/hd-dvd's new.

it's out as of last week and it retails for $1300 :)

I think there is enough of a consumer base to support both formats now, especially with the super DVDs and multi format players out.

Bought a 1080p TV on Friday and I'm changing my stance, the PS3 blows away the Xbox 360's HD DVD capabilities. The only way a 360 supports 1080p is through the VGA cable and it's slightly washed out looking. Until they offer a software update to fix the VGA connection or come out with an HDMI adapter the PS3 is a better option for a top of the line media player.

If you want 1080i then either is fine, however the PS3 is considerably quieter.

Eventually I hope they catch up on the games and improve the playstation store.
