Yeah I always said that too, and that just seemed to piss them off. :) I do agree that people dont look for bikes, but to be honest having a bike made me a much better driver all around because I learned to read people and adjust quicker.

I have a 1yr old and I want to get a bike badly. I also have everyone telling me why I shouldn't get one. However, watching my daughter sleep always reminds me that I want to do everything I can to be here for her as long as possible.

It's the classic "risk Vs. reward". It's also about priorities, which few board members seem to have in order... Getting older helps with these things.
And yes, I've got 2 kids, both about grown. And yes, I rode a bike, and put it away when they came along. Rode X-country and enduro's for a while after that.

thats the way i want to be when i get older. I lived a sheltered life when i was a wee lad. I couldnt even go outside without a helmet. I dont want my kids to be the same.

Yeah I would own a bike if I was single. It's bad enough driving around dallas in a car with these crazy drivers. I know I'm a good rider, It's just the crazy suv soccer moms doing their makeup while driving that scares me.

He doesn't stunt with me on the bike. Not yet anyway, and I wouldn't let him do it on the highway. Not ready for all that stuff yet. I've been terrified of bikes all my life. Up until I started riding with Jason.

I'll have a rug rat someday, but not until I find a worthy woman. I don't know about keeping the bike when I do though, a big part of me says that the right thing to do ias stick with a cage while they grow up, but another part of me remembers having fun helping my dad build bikes, and the first time I got to ride one.

I didn't own one when that pic was taken, but I did have a helmet. Now I have the full get-up, so I WON'T ride without it. Gloves, helmet, jacket. Spent too much money on that stuff to NOT wear it. Can't wait to go riding again!

Again it's all personal beliefs. Granted, it would be terrible for a kid to grow up without a parent, but at the same time you should be able to do what you love. I don't ride all the time, so I personally can say I feel comfortable with it. And yes I do know it can happen at any time. My deal is, when it's your time, it's your time.

I have 2 girls. 4 1/2 and a 20 month old.
I have ridden/raced motorcycle(s) since the day they were born. No plans to stop...
Wife don't like it, but that's tough. I just try to be the best father I can be when I'm with them.
I always wear at least a jacket/gloves/helmet, I don't screw around when I am on the street, and I ride very defensively.

wtf is up with the bike whores in all the damn forums talkin like they OWN a fuckin bike anyways... Des.. u dont own a bike and u only been riding ONCE .. then u went out and got a helmet and a jacket.. LMFAO .. u sound like Bethany Star #@ who would fuck any guy with a 50 just to ride it and claim it .. since she never had a job or money to buy one.. LMAO ..
Anyways.. dude.. like other people said.. ur always gonna get hell for it.... we are gonna die one day.. just dont know when or how..
Ish, I've been riding WAY more than once with the crew. So get your shit straight before you go flappin your jaws. Second, I may not have a bike, BUT I STILL RIDE WITH THE CREW. Just not you since you don't ride on the streets, and even if you did, I would never roll with your faggot ass. And not ONCE did I ever claim to own a bike.
Second, I ALREADY had the helmet, as you notice in the pic in my sig. You forget that I live in Abilene...we don't have no damn stores that just carry shit like that. As a matter of fact, I had to go to the HARLEY store and have them special order BOTH the gloves AND the jacket. Yeah, I said it....HARLEY STORE. Get over it. On top of THAT, it takes forever for shit to get in when you order it. It just so happends that my stuff came in AFTER the last ride I was on. So yea, I was a fuckin squid the times I rode with the guys, because I didn't have all my gear yet. I have no shame admitting that. Now that I DO have it, I'm not ever going to ride without it. I never talked like I own a damn bike. Show me where I did? Because I never EVER let on that I did. And who's tryin to fuck who here? Not me mister. I've got the job, I've got the money....if I wanted to go buy a bike, then I would. My responsibility is to my kid and my family. Not to a damn bike. I'll buy one when I'm ready...in the mean time, I'm going to ride with other people. Don't act like I'm out there fuckin around with every damn guy that owns a bike. I've rode with TWO people. Jason and Tgone. I wish you WOULD tell Tgone this shit....you're baggin on him too since you THINK I've had sex with the TWO guys I've rode with. Lord knows you're going to say shit about Jason....that's old news.
And I find it funny that you come on here and bag on me, and then turn around and repeat damn near word for word what I already said. So if I'm SO stupid, why do you agree with what I say? Fuckin choad.
Why do you have to come on here and start shit? This wasn't a bashing thread, but you HAD to go and fuck up this guy's thread by running your metal mouth. Go fuck yourself Ish, you're a gawd damn rollercoaster...cool one minute, a fuckin asshole the next. Take it elsewhere, no one wants to hear your shit, especially when the shit you talk isn't even correct information. IDIOT!

no kids for me, i've got enough bills as it is. i'm a lot more worried about dying of skin cancer, or getting killed in a car accident than something happening while riding. common sense goes a long way on a bike.

I have 2 kids, 8 year old girl and 3 year old boy. A lot of people don't understand why we love to ride, its an addiction you can't get from a cage. Non-motorcyclist die or get hurt everyday, when its your time, its your time. I do believe in gear,
helmet, developement of good riding skills, being alert, no drugs or alcohol (when riding), save racing and stunting for the track and don't put yourself in a bad situation (riders know what I mean). I don't ride as much as I would like but at least I get to ride enough to calm the beast. I ride a modified 2005 Roadstar Warrior.

I sold my bike just last week. I have a daughter that is about to be 3 and I have 2 stepkids that are 7 and 8. I sold the bike because everytime I rode, I allways thought about the "what if" shit. What if that car about to pull out does not see me, what if someone in the group I am riding with goes down in front of me, what if I have a blow out while doing 75. I know that shit can happen in a car or walking down the street, but I like the increase in the odds I get by getting rid of my bike and know I have a really good chance of coming home to see my kids at the end of the day. I figure when you start thinking too much of what can happen and you dont enjoy the ride anymore it is time to give it up. Maybe I will have another bike eventually, but for now I will stick to the four wheels and a roof.

Got the wife and kid thing going on, but thats not what stops me from getting a bike. Saw a buddy get roadrash from his ankles all the way to the back of his neck, and watched the ER nurse scrub that shit with what looked like a brilo pad for about 30 min...F that!
I know you guys get tired of hearing about it , bla bla bla.
My 30 year old son is in a wheelchair unable to move below his nipple line cause of bikes. Anybody getting a bike should also get atleast 100K insurance policy to help cover their family when they get hurt.

I have 4 kids, and no bike. I damn near lost a foot in a bike accident at age 9, riding with my dad, hit a bump, and the heel of my foot got stuck in the wheel. Fortunately, I was wearing boots, so it took a second for the spokes of the wheel to rub through the boot, but I still lost a large chunk of my left heel. We didn't crash, we didn't fall, we weren't speeding... We were cruising 60 mph, on loop 820 on a clear summer day, in the right lane, no traffic, no bad weather... Just a simple bump, and slip of the foot. I can just imagine what's possible at the speeds I KNOW I'd be reaching if I owned a bike. I want one, I love to go fast, but I don't think the risk is worth the fun, especially with my wife and 4 beautiful kids depending on me to put food on the table, and a roof over their heads. I'd rather take my car to the track, in a semi-controlled environment, INSIDE the car, on a road where EVERYONE is there to do one thing... Haul ass. Now if you've got a bike, and you keep it on the roadcourse, have fun. I'd LOVE to be there with you, just can't afford to lol.

I have 2 girls one is 7 and the other in almost 3. My wife and I talked a bunch about me getting a bike and I made sure she was cool with the whole thing. My family gets real nervous seeing me on one, but the wife and kids think it is really cool. I would never get on my bike without all of my gear either. Gear may not save every life, but I will take all of the precautions I can to be as safe as I can. I ride all of the time and use my bike to commute the 90 miles a day back and forth to work. I work nights so this keeps me really alert on the ride to and from. The cool thing is rolling on the trottle a little when I roll into the garage in the am and my 3 year old daughter running out to welcome daddy home on his motorcycle. :D
I say do what you love to do in life cause we all know it is too damn short.

I have two sons, both 19 or great. One is on this forum. they did have to endure one bad get off of mine, when I got a Care-Flite ride. I think they said, I didn't even know them when they first came to the hospital. It sucks, and I don;t want to put them through stuff like that, but at the same time I'm not going to become a couch potato and not do the stuff I like. Plus they do some crazy shit as well. One could get hurt just as easy playing hockey, and the other skateboards. i also have enough insurance that if something happened they wouldn't have to worry about covering anything.
If everybody is that worried about any kind of bike you may as well stay off the roads around here with your cars, too. I've been hit in my truck, at least 3 times in about a year and a half.

A long time ago, my second X and I had been married about 9 years when it seemed like the right time to have a child. So we did. At the time, I was still in the USAF Reserves and travelled quite a bit. I came home from a trip one time and my bike was gone (Suzuki 1100 touring bike). Just gone. I'm like "WTH?". She thought it was too dangerous now that I was a 'family' man. It was the beginning of the end for us; lack of communication. Whatever your choice, please make sure it's either a joint decision, or one you can live with. Now, she's gone, my daughter graduates in a few months and just a few more degrees warmer and I'll be back on the Harley until next winter. Good luck.
