There's a lot I miss about that place. I miss the fact that Cloudcroft and Ruidoso were so close. Carlsbad. New Mexico in general to me is gorgeous.

I miss the Utep games. I miss the weather.

That place is unlike any other place I have encountered. However.....with all that said.....I don't think I will ever move back. Unless I retire there of course! :D

Lived there for 15 years and ate a lot of Chico's tacos. I never wanted to ask what kind of ground up meat, ie: stomachs, livers, noses ect, was in them as I'm sure I'd never touch them again.

Freds in Jaurez was the place to get a sandwich and Tecate's at 3am.

EP was a fun place in the late 70's/ early 80's.

Yes sir! Freds was quite the place. Ate a sandwich there on many occasions. Also used to go to the derby a lot. Of course this was all before they really started cracking down on all the damn teenagers going over there.

Oh and didn't go to "La Cate" but I had several buddies that did. I actually graduated "De la Jeff!" The pride of the southside! :p
(funny thing is I lived in Santa Teresa area when I went to Jeff, graduated from the Magnet School in 97!)

That DOES suck. But it's also not the first time I've heard that.
Once on my way back from EP I was in Pecos and got pulled over by a popo. He stopped for the same thing (no front license plate) but fortunately he just gave me a warning and I was on my way.

Yeah a buddy of mine and I used to go in his dune buggy, but on the West side, out by Mc Nutt road in Santa Teresa. Talk about some fun ass times! Then they went and built the road and the new gate to Mexico...and all that shit went down hill from there. Pretty disappointing really. I'd imagine the same thing happened on the east side. El Paso is just growing so fucking fast it's unreal.

There is a beauty in the desert that you don't realize until you live there a while. Do people still go off roading out at red sands, east side out Montana Avenue?

The one thing I don't miss is the good old dust storms that blew up from April till early June if I remember correctly.

Gussies Tamales on Pieadras (?). Damn those things were the best I ever had.

About the whole off roading....I'm just not sure. I think that they still do it..but not as much. El Paso is growing so damn fast it wouldn't surprise me if there are houses out there now.

Yeah those dust storms sucked major donkey balls. It seemed like I could NEVER keep my cars clean for more than a day because of all the dust in the air. Not to mention how crazy my allergies were too.

And yes...Gussies has some damn good tamales. Ah my old stomping grounds. I grew up on Mountain Street right down the road from Rusk Elementary. I used to ALWAYS go to that little convenience store on the corner. For any that know what I'm talking about it's called R&S. I miss El Paso....sometimes more than others. I am hoping to go home for Spring Break in March to visit everyone. I'll definitely be making a stop at Chicos and all the other kick ass places in the big EP!

The weather always amazed me out there.

You could be on the east side and it would be nice, then cruise over to the west side and it would be raining.

I don't know how old most of the people are in this thread but I'll mention a couple of bars and we'll see.....

The Gold Rush
Tree Top
Cockpit
Dallas
New Buffalo
Cotton Patch
Miguels
SK Stampede
Gasoline Alley/ turned into the Surf Club
Acetuna's.....had a lot of fun there.

A lot of those bars closed in the early to late 80's. ELP was a great rock and roll town back then.

Juarez...hmmm let's see...
Freds
Spanish Town Inn
The infamous White Lakes
Ant there was a new modern club that I went to a couple of times before I moved in 1990 but don't remember the name. Great pick up joint. Kind of had a Miami Vice feel to it.

In the 80's I had a friend from Mexico who had diplomatic plates and a courtesy card and man you could get away with just about anything you wanted to with no bribes to anyone and no fear of getting arrested.

I still have quite a few friends who live and have business establishments there. I'm going to have to make a trip out there some day but I know it won't be the same.

When I left in 1990 Lee Trevino Street was the last exit before Zaragosa Road and I did pass through there about 3 years ago and the east side had exploded.

Good for ELP.

I wonder how fast some of the low riders out there are going to be? I know they can't corner for shit. I took a ride in one about a year after I lived there and it scared the hell out of me. Low and slow is the only way to go in those things.

Joe Willy's in Rockwall is pretty good.

Ah State Line. That's where my rehersal dinner was. If I remember right they had homemade bread and ice cream.

I tried to eat that steak special one time at Cattleman's and got about 1-1/2 pounds away. I couldn't eat for two days after that. In fact I never went back after that. Was that 5 or 7lbs?

Kiki's was also one of my favorites but I heard its gone downhill in the last so many years.

There was an Italian joint in Five Points that was really good....veal parmigian (sp) yummm.

Don't bring home the Gussies, brag about it and not expect to have your home broken into. :D

Well I just got back in town. Had a blast! Ate Chicos a couple times! Didn't get to go to Cattlemans or Stateline. :( I did however go to Kiki's. It was really good. But yes...you're right...it's not the same that is was a few years ago. The italian joint you talk about it the Italian Kitchen. That's some REALLY good food! Didn't have enough time to do all that I wanted to do but I plan on making more trips over there. It was nice to see my family and the city!

True.

I moved out there in 75 and driving in I swore I wouldn't live there long. No trees on the mountians etc. There's a beauty in the desert that just can't be explained. People out there were really friendly more so than any other city that size I ever lived in. I still can't believe I lived there for 15 years.
I left in 1990 and moved out west.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I seriously think that El Paso is truly a beautiful city. Amongst the mountains, the desert, and the history I find it a gorgeous part of the country.

It was real hard to listen to my family try to convince me to move back. Since I am recently single they seem to think I have nothing more keeping me here in Dallas. :( But I honestly just enjoy Dallas and all the big city has to offer! :D

It's never the same when you go back, kind of like the wrecked car thing.

The history...who was the guy always on the news that knew everything about El Paso and New Mexico? His stories about the wild western days were fasinating and well researched. I've seen him do a couple of bits on the Dicovery channel as well.

My motto when I lived there was that I could make more money by accident than I could at work on purpose. Side work kept me busy at least 20 weekends a year.

Good to hear! Hope it grows and flourishes out there. Might have to check it out if and when I go back to EP to visit.

Ok so this statement is pretty damn contradictory because as luck would have it I am actually moving back to El Paso next week.

I am doing it for several reasons which include to help my grandparents as well as go back to school. I am really gonna miss the Dallas area. And I sure as hell hope to move back here as soon as life will allow me to. To all that I know on this board...God bless. Many of you have my number. So be sure and keep in touch. I plan to visit this place as often as financially possible.

El paso i moved back here too due to some jacked up stuff with the law but still sucks the street scene sucks , the track is alright but all the promises that they did went down the drain my buddies that helped open the track all bailed due to the owner , cant wait to go back to Dallas

I'm right there with you. I miss Dallas like hell. However realistically I am gonna be here for a while. It will give me a chance to go back to and finish school. If all goes well I will be sitting real pretty when it's all said and done. :D
