I was wondering what others do when riding their four wheelers. As an adult I prefer to wear a helmet when riding my Buell or KTM 300 but when I jump on my four wheeler I don't wear a helmet. I do however make my 13 year old daughter wear a full face shoei, when she is on any cycle four or two wheels. Also the four wheelers we use are recreation not sport.

If just tooling around, a helmet isn't that big of a deal. But if you are riding it like your 300, I'd wear one. But then I've already had a closed head injury, and that was with a helmet.

Where do you usually ride the 300?

I always wear a helmet on mine.... Unless I'm just fooling around in the parking lot behind my house playing w/ jetting or something

i wont get on a bike without one, but i never wear one on my 4 wheeler. i bought one to wear, but dont think i have worn it once. call me stupid. i've never wrecked or been thrown. almost flipped over backwards once or twice but I was going slow so i could have jumped.

I just goof off on it down in Liberty Hill Texas when I ride, I have friends that own property in the Hill Country northwest of Austin. I don't hit any tracks with it, at 34 years old I am past those days LOL.

you should come out to Bells with us sometime. it's a cross-country trail, that is never crowded (unless they have a cross country race going on).

What makes it different from a dirtbike to a quad? Your head is still at risk. I never rode my quad without a brain bucket.

That what we do nothing really to over the top, do it seems quite a few people hold my same opinion and well some don't.

well if your just out putting around the deer lease then your right, i probably wont wear my helmet but I have always ridden MX quads so I was usually hauling balls so the helmet was on and tight.

I know a guy that was riding a quad without a helmet and he went to go up some hill and it flipped over on him and it landed on his head and broke everything in his face.

Yeah I dont get it why the fuck would you not wear a helmet
I could see if you are just riding across the deer lease or something with guns, but if you are going to go RIDING WTF wouldn't you wear it for?
I had one just about smash me, I just rolled out of the way.
Those things weigh what like 2-3 times as much as a dirt bike?

When I was in 5th grade I got the bright idea to build a 4foot(yes I measured it) double sided ramp. I was the only one that would ride over it. I tested it once and then went over it again slowly to make sure. When I got to the top I lost speed and
started to pedal. Pedal got caught went off of the side hit the top of my forehead and fractured my skull, slid on my check and grated the lfet side of my face. Ended up with gravel under my eye lid, torn eyelid, grated check and a fractured skull.
Ever since then I realized I can really fuck myself up going slow speeds on a bicycle. So every time I get on anything where I might be able to fall off of while riding I wear a full face helmet.
Except when riding a bike now

I ride almost every weekend and I ALWAYS wear my helmet. I see people at ATV parks without helmets and I just laugh every time.

Even if you aren't riding very fast or crazy it only takes once to really fuck you up. Then you will be wishing you had worn a helmet that day.

thats just plain stupid to not wear one especially if youre going to make your daughter wear one. now you have no grounds for punishment or scolding if she doesnt wear one. just because youre careful and paying attention doesnt mean everyone else is. its jusst plain stupid and hypocritical to ride without one.

I use it mainly for hunting/crawling around the deer feeders and such, I suppose most people on here go all out but I don't. I didn't ask what you thought of my wearing a helmet. I simply asked what others do, if I wanted your judgement I'd ask for it. As for grounding my daughter, I don't have too, she always wears her helmet but she also goes like a bat out of hell, where as I don't . Also if you think you can't ground your kid because you tell them to do something that you don't , then I hope you don't have kids because in my opinion that is retarded.

People tend to get a "safer" feeling on quads..Me includedhttp://dfwstangs.net/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif I have to remind myself to put a helmet on when riding my quad..When i get on the bike I dont even think about it,i just do it out of habit..

Hunting/crawling around, then I dont see the bg deal about not wearing it.But if I was going on any hills, inclines, going down into any creek beds, ect.
As far as the comment about your daughter not wearing one..Doesnt matter what you do,the rule is do as I say not as I do.

Always wear your helmet...if you have children and they rely on you to provide for them, then it is plain stupid to ride without one. I have seen many head injuries in the ER because people did not think that they needed a helmet on their ATV. That is the time that you get hurt...I am just going to run down the street and back...
Not too long ago a 16yr old came into my ER because he wasnt wearing a helmet. It was his 15th bday party and his parents got him a quad. All of his friends from school were at his house and he was riding it in his front yard. He went out into the road to turn around and jump his ditch and was hit by a van doing 45-50mph. He was thrown 75ft. He was alive for a while when he got to us. Brain tissue coming out of his nose and face so swollen even his mother would not recognize him. He did in the SICU the next day from massive head injury. Go volunteer in the ER for a few weeks and see the carnage that silly decisions cause... :(

Can anyone volunteer in an ER? PM me info on this...

Call the Hospital that you want to volunteer in and see what their criteria are and what you need to do. Each hospital is different. Tampa General is a Level 1 trauma center so that would be a great place to see some cool shit. :)
