Im finally financially stable to go through the process of owning a gun... just wondering what yall would advise first....Should i take the class first or get a gun first?
second question, the gun im looking to get is a Glock 23 or 27..... do yall think one of those will be alright or is there a better glock out there for a "first gun"?

any tips on having a smooth process of getting the handgun license?

thanks

1. Go to a range that rents pistols.
2. Rent a bunch of everything and find which ones you like.
3. Shoot some more.
4. Make a decision.
5. Buy your gun of choice and go to the range a couple times and familiarize
yourself with it (what it can and cant do, shooting styles, etc).
6. Then sign up for a CHL course
7. Profit

It sounds like youre doing everything right as far as researching it and everything beforehand which is the best thing. I have a Glock 23, and I love it. Best gun ever. I did however start with a cheaper 9mm, and that would be the best way. Oh and shoot a bunch of different kinds like Good_Ol_Red said. Because theres so many diferences in ergonomics when it comes to guns, and you want the gun to be as comfortable as possible so you are as accurate and comfortable shooting it as possible. Good Luck.

On top of the great advice you've gotten, keep in mind that a gun is a tool. Purchase one that will fit your needs best. Defense? Carry? Accuracy? Most times, we find one that is a good compromise of all those things.

What class are you talking about? If you mean the CHL class, it does not teach you how to use your gun. In fact, there is a proficiency test to prove that you know how to use your gun. If you're talking about some gun handling and shooting class, then it would be better to have the gun you will be shooting with you already. Learn how to use your gun, not someone else's. For now, go to the gun range with a smart person. Have him/her show you the basics. Eventually, you'll find the gun that fits you.

Listen, read and learn from what people say about the guns they own but base your decision on what feels right to you.
