Modified Isosceles!
Beter movement and bone support/structure for your follow up shots. Weaver is a thing of the past.

Weaver. Started using it when I was a wee pup in the academy. Three reasons come to mind: 1-I feel like I control the recoil better with the left forefinger on the trigger guard and I get back on target quicker. 2-I feel like I can engage multiple targets without as much body movement. 3-In close quarters, I can keep my stance without sticking the pistol so far in front of me where some fool might try to grab it.

But it's personal preference and what works for you. They both work. Whatever allows you to be comfortable and focus.

Chapman stance............which is a modfied weaver stance. It just feels right with my long arms.

That is just for the range, but when sneakin thru the house to see if a bad guy is there, I have the gun held the same way except my hand are touching my chest in order to shove the gun forward into an attacker if he jumps out.

For accuracy I lay down in a frog position, which is a modified creedmore. Otherwise I just use whatever feels right that day.

I'm a weaver just because I was taught before body armor was prevalent. Smaller target for my opponent. John has me about ready to try the modified isosceles like he uses. He is a hell of a shooter.

Its pretty much an Isosceles stance with stepped(sp?) footing like the weaver but not as extreme. I will see if I can find a pic.

Weaver is a push/pull stance and grip. Why would you want to pull on something that is recoiling in the same direction? It makes for shitty follow up shots.

How old was the guy teaching your class?

Isosceles pic anyone cause I got no clue wtf yall are talking about. I shoot from several different positions and with each hand alone at the range because you never know what kind of cover will be available if you get into a bad situation. Maybe that's just me that does that?

Accuracy. Leave that sloppy stuff for the redneck rentacop wannabes. Besides, you can take your time and reload a second round for a follow-up if you close to within 200m.

You have a great point in a defense situation (which is assumed by the wording of the original post), but you generally won't find anyone using any kind of isoscoles stance in bullseye or sillhouette. Of course, follow-up is not an issue in those situations, nor in hunting.

Speaking of matches, do you know of any pin shooting in the metroplex? I've always wanted to do that.
