I know this question sounds like an oxymoron but I've got a .410 (along with my 12 gauge Winchester 1300 Defender) shotgun laying around at home and I was thinking about picking up some ammo for it to keep handy.

I see Winchester stocks a 000 Buckshot round that holds 3 pellets. What else is available that might usable close to medium range.

I figure ill get some spread, without too much, and didnt want a slug going straight thru a wall, or missing my target down a hallway/doorway...

You know, brenneke probably makes a KO version of the 410. And then there are specialty loadings. You can get 20 flechettes in a 20g shell, I bet you can get 10 in a 410. And bolo rounds would be easy to make, if they aren't available. And if it's ultimate knockdown with zero penetration you could make a wax and powdered metal slug that would disentegrate once it hit, but man would it hit hard. Like a deadblow hammer.

What was that place that used to make all kinds of far-out 12g ammo for gunshows? Crown Ammo or something? They had some cool sounding stuff. I don't remember anything 410.

Bird shot is the best close home defense round for a shotgun. Close enough to expend ALL energy into the wound, no exit, and no chance of over penetrating and seriously injuring someone else or going through a wall.

Screw that. I want it to go through a stud in the wall, through their torso, rip their spinal column out and carry it through the exterior brick wall and into the street. Fuck the neighbors, for all I know they are the ones breaking in.

Have you checked Ray's?

The roads on Singleton by Ray's is all jacked up right now. Especially with all the rain we've gotten. Maybe when the weather gets better I'll stop by. Haven't been there in years. Bunch of overpriced stuff
