At the SHOT show this weekend I had a conversation with quite a few people who are "in the know" about the whole gun scene and many of them seemed dead certain that the Dems in congress are going to oultaw .50 caliber rifles in the near future. Given what happened to pre-ban assault rifles the prices for .50 guns could go nuts. What do you guys think? I'm sure there are some well educated people on other sites. I'd like to read up on the issue.

I don't think they'll do it. Simply because if they were gonna try and push another gun law, it'd be something a little more drastic etc.

Now if they tried to incorporate some other shit into it, than....

Didn't the gov't outlaw them in California or parts of California?

The idea was that we are about to see a return of the AWB along with a .50 caliber ban.

I'm thinking we are just a good shooting spree away from it being brought up again. Like that shooting spree at McDonald's that started the whole AWB thing.

California banned them under state law.

Like I said if the Federal govt bans them, they're gonna have to go something more drastic. I could see a .50BMG ban added into another AWB, but not alone in itself.

That being said, I don't see anything happens til we see something happen in the white house in '08.

Would something like that include black powder rifles? That would be retarded.

It would have to be very specific. Who knows, maybe civil war rifles and black powder sporters would be banned.

Nah. It's all about grandfathering and that sort of thing. I guess they could ban the sale of new blackpowder rifles or whatever. But hell I don't see the point in any of that. Stranger things have happened.

I'm just wondering if maybe I should buy a Barrett rifle. I guess it would be loads of fun either way.

I think I'd rather spend the $8k on a Machine Gun. If a ban came into effect you'd still make a nice return on selling either or. Every year MGs go up anywhere 10-20%. Plus they'd be a lot more fun.

Same here I have always wanted one but thought I had time to buy it later in life. Could be a good investment if they are going to ban them.

I can't just run out and buy a machine gun though.

I would rather have a .50 than a machine gun..but thats just me. You can pickup some nice .50's in the ~4k range, then leave another 1k for a scope.

I'd rather have the .50 too. I don't doubt that an mg would be a good investment but I'd like to have something that would be cheap to shoot. Relatively speaking, of course.

I might! Look out! Actually the 99 is probably a better bet. Hell I could care less if it is bolt action.

I'd like to get one of those P90s too.
