Just reading the new Sport Rider magazine I got in yesterday and looks like Yamaha is raising the bar some. Some interesting technology in the new R1. Fly-by-wire throttle control that they introduced in the R6 as well as the adjustable intake trumpets. Dayum. I like the look of it as well. Should be interesting to read more reviews.

what difference would the adjustable intake trumpets make

My guess would be like short versus long runners on a car's intake.

Short runners=higher revs, less torque
Long runners=more torque, lower revs

The same thing as the variable intake runners on the ZR1 (LT5) and the SHO Taurus. More torque where you want it.

Don't they also have a slipper clutch on that thing now? Should make drag racing a little easier, especially if it's adjustable.

That's my understanding of the adjustable trumpets as well. And yes the slipper clutch is standard now.

A slipper clutch doesn't mean it slips from the line.....it means it doesnt lock up the back tire like a regular clutch when you downshift. ;)

Well, considering EVERYONE had problems with the TPS/throttle bodies on the 04+ bikes, I think I'd stay about a million miles from this one. :)

Thats bs! Just because of that would not make me not buy another one. Granted, i wouldn't buy the first year model. But still.

Well, your bike is on its second of third set of throttle bodies. How much time do you want to spend waiting for yamaha to quit screwing the pooch trying to make a bike that starts/rides everytime?

I have plenty of friends who ride suzukis and kawasakis, some of them were nice enough to share when mine/my friend's R1s were in the shop.

I'm just sayin Adam. I know not every bike is going to be perfect. But because one has bugs, its not going to keep me from buying another. The only reason i won't buy another R1 is because the Yamaha corporation as a whole, sucks.

How many people are supposed to leave their bikes in the shops for how long while the required parts are 'on backorder', because yamaha doesn't care enough to make a reliable bike to begin with? I'm with you to a certain extent, but the R1s have problems, and I know that I'm not the only one who had an issue. BTW, I agree with you on the Yamaha corporation, and trust me I had some words with them.

Yeah, well, i know you went thru hell on your motor deal, and then when i got it, and it took a shit on me, and they wouldn't stand behind the work. Big FU to them!

it's a yamaha, a couple of givens...........it will have a stacked easy to break gearbox, chain drive oil pump, and get it's ass kicked by 2 of the other 4 japanese manufacturers.

thank god after 20 years they finally ditched the "revolutionary" 5 valve head lol.

If you were going on a straight highway run from say 50-60 till you let out, down in Mexico of course ( ) You would see stock for stock the Kawi pulls away from all three....I have been to Mexico with all three. The suzuki is definately the close second, with Yami and Honda falling off quick. I ain't just sayin', been there. ;)

all the sportbike technology goes in cycles... for example, 16.5" wheels have been tried before but where tossed aside. now look at the faster racers, most are on 16.5's now. it doesnt work today but refined and made better 5 or so years from now, it may be standard. with that said, i still would not buy a bike with that stack assy right now. too many moving parts and variables for error. those stacks when closed look very long. so if stuck closed, once again yamaha is stuck with no low to mid i would assume. it is incredible how they keep pushing though.

ehh, that's not how it works. if the stacks were stuck together, giving you longer runners, you would have more low/midrange power. If they were stuck open, there would likely be a loss in midrange.

i guess i misunderstood how it works, i thought the longer the more top end. thank you for the correction. either way though, something i could do without going wrong after the warranty is over. fixed stacks have worked for me so far.
