I tried asking this in the MCS thread, but the interbickering got piled on top of it.
Is 50 Days off too long for a team to have before a bowl game, let alone a National Championship game?
I'm not saying it would have made a difference in the game, but just as a hypothetical it's too long.

Absolutely. It is crazy to think you can maintain your edge, speed, and sharpness not having played a game in almost 2 months. The Gators did a good job though they only had 31 days off (i think). That is still a long time after you are used to playing every weekend for 3 months.

I just brought up this conversation this morning at work and then I saw this. I agree that they have far too much time off between the end of the season and the bowl games. 2 weeks would be tops - like the Superbowl. Anything over is too long.
I will keep my opinion to myself because if I say anything I will be throwing up an excuse for the ass whipping last night. UF showed up and The Ohio State team of the rest of the season didn't.

It might be, but during that time, they can keep themselves in practice if they want to, so the point isn't really an issue. But to answer you question, yes it's too long and no, it's not what costed them the game. They sucked last night because, well, they sucked!

No, you should be able to say your unbiased opinion, but the "Moral Victory Tsips" will beat you down. Pretty sad.

True . . . but it such a effing beat down that they won't have a playoff because of the "bowl games" . . . yet they add 5 "bowl games" each year and push the MNC game back two days each year.
They could have started a playoff the third week in December and at least the teams that will win will keep a momentum that they may or may not have been on during the regular season.

Post up what you want, but I don't want to hear any bullshit from you at any time when it comes to excuses.
Personally, I think it is too long. Teams that play in a conference championship have somewhat of an advantage due to the fact that the players' bodies are still in "game shape" mode.
The NCAA needs to make a uniform policy among the conferences when it comes to championship games. Either every conference must have/play a championship game or none at all.

no it isn't they choose not to play an extra game it is the schools call so no it isn't.
TCU got their ass kicked by BYU after 11 days off so yeah I'd say 50 is a little excessive. Still though a great coaching staff should be able to keep their players on edge the entire time.
