I have 3 Carbines and they're not to bad of guns. I may pick one up from CMP just to see what I get and to say I did.

Any bets on how much?

I'd be guessing $300-$400 for your average grade, and maybe hit the $600 for one with all new stuff. More for a truly correct parts gun as it left the factory etc etc.

Either way they will still be cheaper than what a bunch are going for online and at shows. Plus you'll have the "real deal" over the reproductions that are coming out at $1k.

M1 carbines are good little guns..I actually have one that was used on Omaha Beach by my Uncle. After the beach he broke it down and sent pieces to each of his 12 brothers/sisters,wife,friends,ect..When he got back he reassembled it. He gave it to me about 3 months before he died..Kinda neat to know that every scratch on that rifle came from Normandy and was made by him.Its not some pieced together surplus with non matching numbers. After he died I was looking real close at it and noticed that on the stockclose to the bolt is 5 tic marks.4 vertical and one diag..I wish I would have seen that before he died so i could ask him what they were for.
Needless to say that gun stays kept in a gun sock,in the back of the gun safe, and is wiped down reg..

Probably the same way my uncle did..He told me that lots of guys did that after they left the beach.Unfortunitly there were so many guns just "laying around"http://dfwstangs.net/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif that it was very easy to "misplace" yours in battle and grab another one.
I've also got half of a Nazi Flag.Him and another guy cut it in half and each kept it. I got all his milt paper work, pictures, dog tags,uniform,ect...After that he became a Ft Worth detective.I also got his badge,ID card,PISTOL,hand cuffs, from when he was a dect, and I also have his gun belt from when he was a patrolman.

CTD has always had it whenever I'm there.

BTW, if you reload it be sure and get top-notch carbide dies. It is a tapered case, not a straightwall. Thats why the die will run about double the normal price. If it doesn't then you are getting a crappy die or one that is mismarked.

M1 carbine is a fun shooting gun.

One of the first, if not the first, rifle I ever shot.

.30 caliber is harder to come buy, Ruger and or Taurus makes a pistol in that chamber.

There is an article on M1 carbine in this month's G&A.

My dad joked about it the same as G&A. "Can't kill nothing with it, but it is fun to shoot."

Lot of service men, shipped them home in pieces. :)

Very easy to work on and disassemble.

I think it is effective only to 75 yards. But don't quote me.

I don't have any problem finding it in FMJ, its the softpoint superX I can't find easily.

Its still one of the cheaper ammos since it comes 50 to a box. But it isn't like years ago when it was all over.

BTW, that magazine will feed a 45 or smaller shell just fine, and the boltface has enough material to handle the cases. Just the barrel needs to be changed, including the threads on the breach.

The CMP is the coolest program. I have purchased three M1s with them, and I could not be happier. (My credit card company loves them too.)

If you get a chance to order with them, do so.
