I was there too at 8:30pm. About 10-15 20gb PS3's that they were selling for $499.
They are still only selling the 60GB ones in bundle, 2 games and 2 year warranty, total comes to $87x.xx

Was lookin at PS3 before Christmas for my son. And fuck a bunch of that. Only thing my wife and I found were bundles and the cheapest was like $1000. Had to pass on that one. Personally, I'll just stick with the PS2. If Nintendo doesn't kill the Wii with child only games, I may get one of those.

Oh no doubt they'll come down. But they're already losing some $250-$300 per system. The 360 at it's worst was only losing around $150 per system, and now is actually positive by around $75 per system (of course, this doesn't factor in marketing, shipping, etc... just strictly build totals). It's going to be at least a year or two before Sony's build costs come down enough that they can justify even a small price drop.
Of course, Microsoft can just force their hand by droppign the 360's price in the near future... essentially forcing Sony to either take an even larger hit per console, or keep it at the current price, and suffer the public perception that now the system is $300+ more expensive than the comparable 360, with no real advantages to justify that $300+ extra. Nintendo's in the comfy position of already making money on their hardware, so they can match any price drop Microsoft decides to pursue, without any worry.
Add that to the fact that Sony's losing exclusives left and right, and suddenly even a cheaper PS3 isn't all that appealing.
MGS4 is on the verge of going multi-platform, Dragon Quest IX is going to DS... HUGE blow to the PS3 Japanese market. Square is getting very cozy with Nintendo again, we may see further Kingdom Hearts games (or related ones) coming to Wii instead. Final Fantasy XIII may also come out for the 360, based on Square's recent activities regarding multi-platform development.
They've already lost GTA4, and Virtua Fighter 5 as exclusives. Tekken is rumored to be switching, or at least cross-platforming. DOA switched to Xbox last generation. I've also heard rumors that Capcom might be taking Devil May Cry multiplatform. They lost Resident Evil exclusivity last gen, when Capcom ponied up to the Gamecube, and there's already a Resident Evil game in the works for Wii.
About the only for sure exclusive game they still have, is Gran Turismo... and I'm sorry, I loved the first 2, and really liked 3 and 4, but after Forza came out, I couldn't bring myself to play GT4 anymore. Having the damage models and that affecting how you play, is so much more interesting to me, than making a 1800hp monster and just riding the wall to victory.
If Nintendo doesn't kill the Wii with child only games, I may get one of those.
I take it you haven't played any recent Nintendo systems. They haven't "killed" any of their systems with child only games. I honestly cannot think of any "child only" games, for any system, offhand. Care to clarify your criteria of what constitutes a "child only" game?
Child friendly != child only. An E rating != child only.

I'm still confident that the PS3 will win this war hands down. Next year this time people will be in love with the it. I personally cant wait till Ninja Gaiden comes out.

Sounds like PS3 isn't making the cut this time around. I'm not impressed by it (due to price) but i'm used to PC games too. Xbox360 is still too much imho, but i'm a cheap ass due to mainly playing pc games.

Talked to my friend JB, the Software supervisor at the Arlington location, and the PS3 is only sold as bundles starting at $1000, and will be that way for a while. Not Wii's in the near future, but he promised to call me as soon as he hears word on the next shipment, and I'll let everyone know they're coming. He's keeping an eye on the POTO's for all of the area stores, so if they land anywhere near me (Plano, Irving, Arlington, Garland) he'll let me know.

PS2 accomplished it's domination by coming out a year early, offering DVD playback (which was already a popular format, not unproven and a potential loser like BluRay), and the ability to keep it's price within a casual price point after the initial hardcore/early adopters picked it up for $300. The early lead kept developers providing exclusive content, which kept players and new buyers looking at the PS2 for all the games you couldn't get on Xbox or Gamecube.
Now, the tables are turned. 360 is out a year early, with DVD playback, and the ability to keep the price within a relatively casual price point. And the 360 now has an installed base of nearly 10 million, the Wii nearly 4 million, and the PS3 under 1 million.
The 360 has the marketshare and finances to entice even the most Japanese centric developers (as witnessed with the aquisition of Virtua Fighter 5, and Konami pushing Kojima Productions to develop MGS4 for the 360, Squenix bringing FFXI, and talking more and more about multiplatforming their flagship titles... )
The Wii also has a huge lead over the PS3, and at least a few major producers are putting together dedicated Wii teams/studios to focus on development.
The PS3 won't be the runaway success that the PS2 was, by a long shot. If it squeaks out a majority marketshare by the time the next generation rolls around, I will be shocked.
