If you missed what Michael Irvin said on the ESPN radio show then try this out. I am offended by the fact he basically infered the good white atheletes must have some black family members somewhere down the line.
"He doesn't look like he's that type of an athlete. But he is. He is, man. I don't know ... some brother down in that line somewhere ... I don't know who saw what or where, his great-great-great-great-grandma ran over in the 'hood or something went down."
"The host of the show apparently did not think Irvin was joking, either. He responded to Irvin, "Oh, that's the only way he can be a great athlete?" "
"That's not the only way, but it's certainly one way," Irvin replied. "If great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandma pulled one of them studs up out of the barn (and said), 'Come on in here for a second,' you know, and they go out and work in the yard. You know, back in the day."
Is it just me or is it seemingly okay to make racial insensitive remarks and go unnoticed as long as you are not white?
Take for instance last year when the Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry blamed a blowout loss to Texas Christian University on the fact that TCU had more black players than his team did. He stated :
"It's very obvious to me the other day that the other team had a lot more Afro-American players than we did," DeBerry said, "and they ran a lot faster than we did. It just seems to be that way that Afro-American kids can run very, very well."
DeBerry was blasted for what he said and apologized. No one even noticed what Irvin said. I always thought he was a little ignorant now I think he is just plain stupid at times.

The thing is that DeBerry was serious. Irvin is pretty good friends with Romo and was obviously joking, even if it was in poor taste.

i was actually listening to the Dan Patrick show when he said that. Dan and Keith just kind of skimmed over that and then before a commercial joked about being kicked off the air for it. It doesn't suprise me that Irvin would say that, he thinks he the all knowing of all knowing.

Now, as far as Irvin. Aikman commented this week that the implications that Irvin was making are pretty much the line of humor used in all of the locker rooms in the NFL. He was making a joke that he would make with other Jock's in a locker room, but he said it on the air.

That's an ignorant comment. Everyone is racist to a certain degree whether they like to think so or not. If me thinking there are black people, then there are "stupid motherfuckers" is racist, so be it. If it were flip-flopped and it was a black person saying "there are white people, then there are is the red-neck trailer-trash" it wouldn't be thought of twice. Fuck double standards.
