Good, if there's one thing that sucks worse than a cocky "Hollywood star" kicker, it's a cocky "Hollywood star" kicker that can't kick.

Martin Grammatica!

GAWD, that guy is a tool . . . if you get hurt celebrating, you shouldn't be allowed back in the sport (this includes Adrian Peterson). That's about the dumbest thing that can happen in sport.

You can add Bill Grammatica and Gus Ferrotte (sp?) to that list too.

It was dumb to sign him to that contract in the first place. Shoulda just kept Suisham. Kickers are so expendable. In my opinion the best thing to do is to just sign a cheap, rookie kicker.

I guess Jerry really is serious about winning. He lost a chunk of change by giving up on him. THANK GOD!

Cowboys release shaky Vanderjagt, sign Gramatica

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys released Mike Vanderjagt on Monday, apparently tired of his inability to live up to his reputation as the most accurate kicker in league history. Martin Gramatica was signed as his replacement.

The Cowboys gave Vanderjagt a $2.5 million bonus as part of a three-year, $5.4 million contract to shore up a position coach Bill Parcells felt cost the team three wins last season.

However, he was injured and inconsistent in training camp, plus reluctant to handle kickoffs. Parcells never seemed to warm to him and he was only 13-for-18 on field goals, the lowest success rate (72 percent) of his career.

Dallas (7-4) plays at the New York Giants (6-5) on Sunday. Winners of three straight, the Cowboys are first in the NFC East, with the Giants one game back.

The Cowboys did not release any details about the move. Players were off Monday. Parcells will next speak to reporters Tuesday.

No contracts in the NFL are guaranteed, so all that was lost was his signing bonus.

Thats still 2.5 million down the drain though. :o

I believe the Cowboys have been one of the worst teams when it has come down to cap room or lack there of.

I've never heard of a kicker getting that kind of signing bonus.

Vandy will count 1.66 million against the cap next year. not a huge chunk of change, like the signing bonuses of a Deion Sanders some years ago. But could have been useful in signing offensive lineman.

I haven't checked lately, but I'm pretty sure all of the FA on the team have been resigned already (atleast the players that are worth a damn). They'll be ok.
