If you are faster than 9.99/135mph and run nhra looks like a diaper might be in your future in 2007. I'd expect this rule to also be picked up by other sanctioning bodies sooner or later.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2007, all Comp competitors will be required to have an oil-retention device meeting either SFI Spec 7.1 or 7.2. For Jan. 1, 2008, the same rule will apply for Super Gas, Super Comp, and any E.T. vehicle running 9.99 or quicker or 135 mph or faster. NHRA is developing an implementation strategy for an oil-retention device meeting the SFI specification for the reminder of the NHRA Lucas categories.
I wonder if they mean for national event type of races only - or if it's everything?

Since it's a nhra rule i'd expect it to be enforced by any track using those rules to do tech (it does mention E.T. cars as well). So i'd say at ennis you could probably expect it but might not be an issue at a more layed back track like k-dale or yello-belly :D
The thread I found this in was replied to by a nhra tech that also helps run a track up north. He said that they have had this as a local track rule for several years now. He said that the rice hull ash has tripled in cost and that synth lube on the track is hell to clean off.

I don't see it bieng much of a problem around here - but bummer if you have to get one to go to Ennis. Generally speaking they look like shit and never seem to stay tight up against the bottom of the motor...but if you have to get one, I guess I will.

It's not a bad idea. I mean, how much fun is it to drive through your own oil anyway?
More importantly, how is the next guy down the track going to feel about it?

Yeah its not a bad rule at all. Too bad 90% of the oil down the track is coming from the slow cars with leaky valve covers, timing chain covers etc etc.

what if you were the next guy and the car before you was just a POS, that doesn't follow the rules and you crash and burn your shit cause of his POS.
better yet what if the guy in the other lane has unlimited funds and crashes into you trying to beat you. it takes you 5-6 years to build a car at that level whereas the rich prick just goes and buys another.

My worst fear :( . And also why when I start running my car I am going to look for good opportunties to make solo passes. And that goes doubley for when I start spraying. Just to make sure I have the kinks worked out.

You don't have to be so hard on Andrew!!!

I also think that it is a great idea but I can see where a lot of people are going to be surprised or unhappy about it. And they'll probably be hard to come by in jan 2007 for awhile just like harnesses are.

A diaper is not that big of deal. they don't cost a whole lot and are easy to install.
I had to put one on my vega once to run a pro mod deal at denton.
