Having Graphics Problem

I just installed BattleField 2 and went to start the game. I get to the screen that says something about Manage Account or "Select account" then the screen goes black and then the desktop pops back up with an error message. My resolution has been reset to like 800 X 600. Error message says: " VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands."

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9250

it could be that the minimum requirements are to have at least a 9600... i really dont know though, might try putting that error message in google and see what pops up...

well I think I figured out my problem. I could not remember my graphics card when i bought the game so i did anyways. the game specs call for radeon 9500 or higher. and says video card has to be AGP or PCI Express. All I have is regular PCI. Buying a new video card is no problem...but what about upgrading to AGP or PCI Express?

unless you have an AGP or PCI-E slot on your motherboard, it will mean buying a new computer or replacing the motherboard (for most people, they get a new PC)

Yep, if you're using a PCI now, you probably don't have a PCI-e or AGP slot... What other hardware you got? Might be able to buy a board to support it... But seeing as how you have a 9250 I'd imagine the CPU's a couple years old... Might need a new one bro...

yeah my computer I bought maybe 3-4 years ago. so a new computer is in order. Since I have had this computer I have only upgraded the ram memory and the 9250 ATI graphics card I have now. so I am thinking that building my own system may not be for me but instead of buying a complete system and upgrading the graphics card if needed.

If you need help building one, let me know. I'd reccomend getting a Gigabyte P965 Core 2 Duo board...

That one's a bit pricy but you get the idea.
Look for something with 2 PCI-e 16x slots, so that you can do SLi if you decide to. The low end of the Core 2 Duo is ~$330 but it kicks the dog piss out of the ~$800+ AMD FX-67(? I think that's the right number)....
