Cingular or Sprint wireless internet service?

i bought a new laptop, and i want to get a wireless internet card, but i don't know which to get...i've heard good things about both, but i don't have experience with either.

Cingular should be pretty fast with the dallas area UMTS coverage, but if you travel alot, EVDO is alot more places, although not quite as fast.

A friend of mine has the Sprint version and seems to like it pretty well. That's all I know about it. :p

I've got the verizon card, and I'm not 1000% impressed with it, but it's alot better than nothing.

I had verizon's but just cancelled it, If you need a card let me know you can have mine for 50.00 with the software.

Brad, who do you use for cellular service now?

I'm tethering my MacBook to my Cingular Nokia 6682 phone via a Bluetooth connection to access the internet (and I did not need to buy any kind of internet card). I use Cingular's EDGE connection and it works fine for me. If you have Bluetooth on your cell phone and laptop I'd probably look into that rather than spending money on another device strictly for internet access.

my phone is cingular, but i figure that there will be plenty of times that i'll be talking on my cell phone and on the computer...i may give that a shot, though!:)

Sprint will give you 30 days to try out thier service with the ability to cancel without fees. Is it for travel around Dallas or on the road city to city. I would look at a coverage map, if you are looking for home use.

Edge and 3g are pretty comparable @ ~115kb/s
EVDO is a realistic ~400kb/s
UMTS ~700 from what I've used.

I used to work in VZW's NOC and there broadband is all EVDO and they run at 756 max. Also I have driven from here to Ny and to N. MO and out west to AZ and never lost coverage for more then 10 mins on the highway.

From what I have read, Sprint was the fastest... We used it on my buddies laptop when we went to south padre and it was fast here and there...inbetween was a bit lacking.

If you decide to go sprint, jump on ebay. You can get a free card with a subscription

keep in mind all numbers givin on these cards are BURST speeds... Don't expect to be watching live streamin vids or downloading huge files... ive used several of them, they are all comparable... just don't expect it to replace ur home connection and ur golden.

The reason they all lag so bad is at the tower they are running on 1-4 T-1's and if your moving they are constantly doing a soft hand off to another tower so all the traffic has to be rerouted. I could do speed test's and get 1m down and 256 up but sitting still but driving I could hardly ever get speed test to work because it bouncing frm tower to tower.

I travel alot and have Cingular which does fine when on the Edge Networks even here in Hawaii I have good signal when on sites or even in remote locations. It's a real treat when you are somewhere that has a 3g network (like Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco etc...).
