Im still on the fence really. Its a very similar looking bike, but looks are really where it stops...
Comparison between 2006 and 2007:
2007 vs 2006 R1 (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelspeccompare/6/1452/0/compare.aspx)
Here is the '07

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/content/images/600/07r1_black_4_46ef79d5.jpg
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/content/images/600/07r1_blue_2_fbf7f171.jpg
The '07 has 4 valves per cylinder instead of 5. 6 Piston calipers up front with a slightly smaller rotor instead of 4. 12.7:1 comp ratio over the '06s 12.4:1. More adjustable suspension. All in all, not a bad deal, especially considering the price barely went up ($100-300 depending on color)

Probably a good move on going to the 4 valve head. Hope it performs well, they've got some stiff competition. I'm still undecided on the looks, but I think I might like it in person.

They went away from the 5 valve head which is good and bad.
Perhaps they won't have valve train issues and that's good, but just giving up and going backwards doesn't seem like such a good decision either. However, if Ford went away from the mod motors and back to pushrods that were as simple and competitive as the ls-1, I can't say I would be dissappointed :o

I dont see how its going backwards. If the 4v head is making more power than the genisis setup, I think its a step in the right direction instead of backwards. They use a 4v head on the YZR-M1, Im sure if the 5v head was really better for performance, it would be on the M1 by now

Yup rossi chose the 4 valve head instead of the 5. I remember reading that it doesn't make the most HP out of all the GP bikes but usable power is what rossi was going for.

It's a Yamaha for gods sake........ :D
Nice factory styling with a factory engine setup that rivals par at best. Colors don't make up my mind, they all come in black. Im strictly a power house and reliability kind of guy.....Factory Kawi's dominate there. ;)
In all fairness those are some pretty colors. ;)

That's like this time a friend who worked at a local performance shop was telling me that a FAST stand alone unit was junk and that a stock A9L ecu made almost 100 more hp than the FAST system on a particular car they were working with.
All that means to me is whoever was tuning the FAST setup didn't know what they were doing ;)

so are you saying more valves are better? well fuck, then why not have a 7v head? i mean if 5 is automatically better than 4 for no other reason than it has one extra valve... that would be the shit! 4 intake and 3 exh valves!

No Rossi said it was easier to go faster with the design of the 4 valve head. He said something to the effect like the other bikes might make more power but its not as useable. You might be able to click off one really fast lap because of it but it makes it harder be consistantly fast. He said while the m1 would be getting off corners good the other bikes would be "dirt tracking it" (getting sideways) trying to hook that power up.

That's the point Yamaha was trying to make to the world in 1998. Looks like they owned themselves, DOH! Sorry if it makes you unhappy LOL.

I'm not disagreeing with the logic at all. I'm just poking fun at Yamaha for making the 5 valve head a big deal way back when, not being able to dominate the literbike hp wars despite the "superior" technology, then going back to a 4v head :p

Too bad they don't offer it in Raven. I guess I'll have to "settle" for an '06 with 5 valves when I upgrade.
Unless you ride on the the track, the differences are minimal. It's ludacris to ride any of today's superbikes to their potential on the street, there are just too amny possibilities that'll wind you in the ER or worse.

It doesnt make me unhappy that they realized that the 4v head is better for what they are trying to do. Im still trying to figure out how it is a "step backward".

Simple, stop being a sack rider and use common sense. :D
Touting one's new technology (refering to the 5v head in the R1 when the bike was introduced) as superior to another previously used type of technology that the competition is still using, THEN years later reverting BACK to that inferior technology used in the past and currently by the competition would imply that it's a step backwards. What's not to get?

Yep. Kawasucki "reliably" sells you a bike that has power and no steering damper to assist you in correctly utilizing it. They also "reliably" make it from the cheapest materials so that the wheels crack and frames buckle.

wow, I never had any of those problems....hence the reason I say reliability. You don't base an entire bushel on a couple bad apples. It's faster than your R1, and more reliable.

Don't the current 10's come with an ohlins damper?
Either way...when the 636 came out, I was really impressed. It rode very well, best 600 out then. Kawi did a big turnaround. When it came time to replace the rear tire and I saw the non sealed open bearings, I realized the turn around wasn't as big as I had previously thought LOL.

No, never have. Plus there's no underseat space and the heat. Love the R-6 but, don't want another 600. Love the new Suzukis
