Since when did Ford say they were going to run a Cummins?
That has been nothing but rumors for years, just like Ford owning Cummins....

That was the rumor going around back when I worked at a ford shop. All I can say is that I'm glad I don't work on cars for a living any more. All of the diesels that came in were sent my way, and there is no way in hell I wanted to mess with a ford twin turbo diesel setup. The 6.0's were shitty enough when they first came out, I don't see this being much better.

They wanted an inline 6 but since dodge already has one it would open the door for lawsuits so they went with a v6. Cummins merely built the engine and won't do any warranty work on it.
man... I dunno where turbodriven keeps getting his shit information but it is shit for information. Ford will be using the Cummins motor for the F550+ trucks as a standard motor in 2008 but ford will NOT be offering them in their standard line of f230/350's. Cummins is an inline design which is one of the reasons its superior.... the 6bt is an inline 6...the 4bt is an inline 4. The new motor for the dodges is STILL an inline 6... Cummins has been building inline motors for most of their autos for decades...I dont see a v6 anywhere in their future

Ok, let me break this down for you. Ford approached Cummins and asked for an engine. They handed them the plans for the engine they wanted. Cummins built the engine to Ford's specs. Cummins then said they would in no way give it a warranty that it would be Ford's responsibility to supply the warranty.

The '08 Superduties will have the 6.4L V8 twin turbo Powerstroke. This includes 250, 350 & 450. you can already get the cummins in the 550/650 if ordered that way (inline 6, I lol'd at the V6 and Cummins in the same sentence).
This info has been available for a long time, amazing some people still can't get it straight. lol
FWIW, my '06 6.0 Powerstroke has been flawless. It runs rings around my '02 & '04 Powerstrokes. I think they finally got it right.

Well.....
Any official word is probably still confidential in Columbus, but do some research, and you'd be surpised what you can find.
Cummins, reportedly, is developing a V6 and V8 diesel.
I've heard 2010 or so (about the time the current Cummins/Dodge contract expires)... both a 4.2L V6 and 5.6L V8. Iron block, aluminum head, direct injection, 4 valve OHC.
These would be for the 1500 series light trucks.

What's his last name? I might have met him.
I interned in the engineering dept. at Cummins Southern Plains headquarters in Arlington this past summer, and will probably be going back when I graduate in May. In fact, they just mailed me a independant contractor agreement so that I can keep doing work for them during this semester and in the spring, from out here in Lubbock. Hooray for money! :D

But alas, I was pulled into another Ford the same day. If I could get the Cummins in an F350 I'd buy it tomorrow. But the ceo (wife) says I might can have a 650 next year. We'll see.

Reps do a good job talking out of their ass. Apparently you are going all in on his faulty info.
Cummins is developing a consumer line of diesels (for cars and light trucks) that is a V style engine, but I would be willing to bet they will be going in a car that has a ram for a logo.
I'm so far happy with my Powerstroke (other than the shitty mileage) it runs solid. But I still use my cummins for long/heavy hauls. From what I understand the 6.4 is the 6.0 block, just opened up and it uses HPCR (high pressure common rail) heads along with the twin turbos.
Cooter
10-03-2006, 10:26 PM
the 6.4 might finally be a powerstroke I could get behind... common rail is where it's at... I'm sure they'll have some teething issues, but getting away from that rube goldberg oil-triggered injection setup was a very late step in the right direction.

I'm am impressed with the amount of misinformation and guessing. I never posting anything about this truck because it's already out at the fair. The motor went through an extra 6 months of testing so it won't be released like the 6.0 was. It was originally going to be in the 07. The truck is also at fordvehicles.com.
The interior is retarded nice. The motor will be released at 350HP, 650TQ. It was designed for 450/750 for those who love their programers. The F450 will tow 24K properly equiped. The 6.4 in made by Navistar/International.
The Cummins guys as usual have most of the answers. The cummins (not the Dodge version) is now the standard motor in the F550 and up. It is the cheaper motor for that spot as far as up front cost and warranty cost.
Any other questions?
I love the 08. The new features and the interior were well thought out. I'll be firmly planted next to it tomorrow at the auto show.

Common sense would tell you not to talk to the woman at the parts counter, unless she knows about the engine. You'll see. Maybe you're right, the engine won't be in the 08's and for that I owe 8mpg the $50 we agreed on. That's no problem, the fact I'm trying to push is that this engine does exist and will be in the F250/350s in the very near future. look dude, there have been rumors like this in the small diesel world for YEARS... a few years ago the rumor was the B series in the Dodge was going to be replaced with a Mercedes engine when their contract ran out... and that Ford was going to get the 5.9.
just a rumor... I've heard recent rumors that Dodge is talking w/ Cummins about smaller diesels for their 1500 and smaller lines... but I'm not preaching them as gospel... Dodge's contract w/ Cummins is coming up again in a few years, but I assure you they're going to do everything they can to keep them because Cummins sells a LOT of trucks for them!!!!
you said that the powerstroke was dead in '08... you didn't say it was a rumor, you said it was secret information that us peons didn't have...

I promise I know more reliable info about future vehicles than 99.9% of people that could stumble on this site. I spoke on here about the 6.4 TT made by International about a year ago. I have a fleet guy who is directly involved with developement and testing, and a couple Ford reps that are friends.
That being said, I've not heard anything about any new Cummins motor being used on a Ford product other than the existing use in the F550 and bigger.
Ford has been designing a new smaller diesel for the F150 and Expedition. It's nick named the Babystroke. We thought it might be the new 4.5 V6 TT used in Ford's Cab Over truck brought over from Europe. However, the torque is great, but the HP is lacking. I'll try to keep ya'll updated with anything I hear.
