The announcements from Abu Dawood were obtained by Hamid Mir, the only journalist to interview Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and Taliban leader Mullah Omar in the wake of 9/11. Mir earlier reports regarding the resurgence of the Taliban with support from Iran and an unofficial truce between President Pervez Musharraf and al Qaeda have been panned out by the press in recent months.

Mr. Mir interviewed Dawood on September 12 at the tomb of Sultan Mehmud Ghaznawi on the outskirts of Kabul. Now comes this recent confirmation regarding illegals crossing our borders with KI tablets (also known as Potassium Iodate), which protects (to a certain degree) one's organs from radiation poisoning...as in, NUCLEAR radiation.

Too many people nationwide already falsely believe that KI is a so-called "anti-radiation" pill that will protect them from all forms of radiation. If a person takes the tablet and fails to leave/evacuate a radioactive area, they will still be exposed to radiation and will likely become ill or even die from radiation sickness. Further, Gamma radiation, (the type of radiation that killed so many people in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan, after the atomic blasts in 1945) is deadly; Potassium Iodate offers no protection on this type of nuclear radiation.

I'm not just saying all this because of recent events, but because it should be in place anyway.

On top of all that's listed above on what you need to know/have, it would be a wise thing to learn about your environment and how to pull/use your resources from there first hand. For example: subsistence farming, tapping natural water supplies, hunting, etc.

I know this sounds like some back-woods-militia-paranoia thing, but who would have thought things would have come as far as they have already? Honestly, I never dreamed of people hijacking planes and flying them into heavily populated buildings before 9/11. Fire (matches/bic lighters)
The ability to purify water
Leatherman
Maybe a larger knife also
LED flashlight(s)
Duct tape
First aid kit
Maybe some rope or Paracord 550#
Mylar solar blanket
MRE's / meal replacement bars

For a more permanent solution (ie. turning your house into your bunker)

Nonperishable foods
Camping stove with plenty of fuel
Lanterns
etc, etc, etc.

On the water purification; there are water bottles you can buy that have filters in the top. Scoop up the water, and it will filter/purify with activated charcoal as it leaves the bottle. Also, know how to use bleach to purify water... maybe google "Solar Water Disenfection."

Check my post on the first page shortly after Jester's post. Basically, you have to put you and your family in the mindset that you won't have a properly functioning government (temporarily). No police, fire, EMS, first responders, etc. You also have to think of about all of your goods and service suppliers as out of business. I don't think it'll ever get to the point of living in tents and shit, but just a short set-back for goods and services for a while. What I'm more concerned about is other people. People who aren't prepared or panic. I mean, come on, look at New Orleans. Looting with run rampant if it ever does happen. I'm not letting anyone run off with my beer ;) My wife HATES guns, but you know what? I've got one a Kel-Tec .32 for her. It's small, lightwieght, easy to maintain and use. She'll carry it if she likes it or not because if the time ever arises, she's gonna have very few choices. Teach all members of your family to defend themselves, not just from terrorists, but from dumbasses among us that can't handle themselves in a disaster. Look at New York, selling bottled water to rescuers for $8 a bottle! Don't think for one second that every vendor around won't hike their prices up on everything. Get what you need while it's reasonable.

I think they don't even know what the hell the tablets are for. There isn't any reason to carry them knowing you are going to be in a fallout zone when the real soultion would be not to go there in the first place.
