Is there a way to use an amp/sub with a stock head unit? I've never looked into this before, I've always just replaced my head unit in every car that I've owned.
It's an 06 Chevy truck BTW
Yes, but why? ;)

EW,
I'm looking for the same thing. I can tolerate the stock stuff, just want more bass, and have other places I need to spend the big cash right now. Let me know what kind of deal you can work me.

yes you can..... take to a stereo shop or call crutchfield.com they have alot of adapters for stock stereo's to easily hook up your amp
depending on the stock system, can use a line output convertor or alot of the premiums can use oem adapters to add an amp. Pac and Metra the most popular out there, even though alot of other brands are available. Go on to Pac-Audio.com and you can see the Authorized dealers in your area.

Because I want some more bass and your already taking all of my money for other things! :D
I just want some better sound quality for right now, then when I get the extra cash I'll throw a good head unit in there.

Without much modification i'd just run a singal wire off the right channel speaker. It's really easy. Although for the best sound an aftermarket head unit is recommended if possible. (not possible with mach)
You want to use both left and right signal not just one side in most factory systems because most signals will be in stereo not mono.
You can add subs to a mach system.

If he has a dual voice coil sub and a 2 chnl amp yeah use both sides. But most people use a mono amp for a sub nowdays so just use the right channel it's the channel with all the bass.

The right channel is the one with all the bass? LOL!

That what I did.
I've got a line out converter and tapped into the right rear speaker in the taurus.
I'm running a mono 200w into a single MTX 12"
Amp was free from family and the box/sub I picked up for $50 off craigslist.

I have an 06 Chevy Silverado. I used a line convertor and tapped in to the two rear speakers. I also did it with my 03 GT. It works and you can feel the bass, but an aftermarket head unit with sub controls works a lot better. I used the Scosche(sp) convertor from wal-mart, i think it was around $15. It is a good option if the funds for a new radio is not an option at the time.

it's the center channel with all the good clean bass. the right speaker is for dB!

I had a sub on my stock Mach setup and I could never get the sound right. I finally took EW's advice and changed out the deck. The same amp and sub made at least double the bass, much clearer sound and got rid of all distortion. If you want better sound, go with a new deck.

I heard if you wire the front and rear channels all together you get quadruple the bass!

LOL!!
all these people saying to "wire it to the right speaker because its mono" and all this shit make no sense man... get a $15 converter and wire both the right and left rear speaker together... the stock head unit will sound fine for people that dont know the difference and is alot more practical for us poor people  yes, a aftermarket head unit is a HELL of alot better but it will sound OK if u jus use the converter... not to metion at least $150 that you save... get the new HU later...
i gota say though, the smart ass comments are entertaining guys! :p

actually, you can add it to the mach system, you just have to know what you're doing. i have the mach 460 system. i wanted to keep the 6 disc, but its just not worth it, you really need an aftermarket radio for best results. I suggest you take it to best buy, buy a mediocre head unit, get the free install, and have the rest of your system installed. if you can do the amp install yourself, power to you.
Radio-(approx.) $150
Radio install - $Free
Install parts - $18.49 dash kit
$18.49 wire harness
2 channel amp install - (approx) $60
4 channel amp install - $71.99
