View Full Version : I know it's not good, but how bad is it

I went for a run (2 miles) today after I woke up. I just started running again so I'm not in good shape yet, but I didn't feel bad after running like I do if I strain myself. When I ran it was about 62* and raining (yes not the smartest thing), so I wook a warm shower. Once it got hot, it became very difficult to breathe due to the steam. So much so that I had to run off the shower and go out into my room to cool down. When I did that though, my entire upper body "fell asleep", I got the pins and needles feeling all over, and then it became VERY hard to breathe for about 2-3 minutes. Once that calmed down, I've been fine ever since. This has happened one other time 2 years ago, but other than that, no recurring issues. The only common threads I can find were that I hadn't eaten yet either time, and it was right after I woke up. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Sounds serious; you don't need to screw around with posting this on the internet, you need to see a doctor

I don't see anything wrong with jogging in the rain, especially if it's not very hot or cold. 67 isn't exactly extreme weather. I would also suggest seeing a doctor. I just think you did too much, and perhaps your body wasn't adequetly hydrated. I always like cool to warm showers after working out. Never hot ones. It just doesn't feel good.

Sounds like angina. How old are you? Any family history of early heart attacks? You should go get seen by a doctor. You will need some blood work, an EKG and a stress test. Until then, put a hold on your strenuous activity.

How hard did you run the 2 miles...and did you do any sort of cool down before jumping right in the shower?

Yea, I think I caught a case of that in 7th grade football practice one time. :D

That was the thing, I didn't run hard at all. I purposefully walked about a third of it. Took my about 25 minutes, and then I walked another probably half mile to cool down.

brucas is the dfwstangs doctor, id listen to him.

kinda sounds like asthma a bit too, minus the pins and needles thing.

Don't take a hot shower after you run really hard, that's for damn sure. I usually take a fairly cold shower and even then I wait at least 15 minutes.

Still alive, went to the doctor today. She checked my heart and lungs and said both are fine, but just to be safe to pay attention to my body while working out. She said I probably just shocked my airway when I went from cold to hot like that.

That's what got me, I only ran two miles, and I walked about a third of it. Took me almost a half hour. If I can't do that, kill me now, haha. For sure, let me know a weekend. Month and half until I'm 21.
